Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 12-27-2012

Pittsburgh Gazette Times, December 27, 1912:

Every member of the Cubs who is to be on the team next season must get seasick before the opening game, and some, too, who will not be on the West Side lot. To enforce this new departure in baseball training President Murphy will personally conduct a seafaring trip from New Orleans to some point on the Florida coast near where the players will finish their limbering up exercises…
...
[Cubs President Charles Murphy:] “It is my belief, after being seasick several times, that it is the best thing in the world to start spring training on. Seasickness rids the system of the winter’s accumulation of luxuries and minor ills incident to a life of laziness.”

Seems like being a Cubs fan is a whole lot like seasickness: Nausea, vomiting, not being able to get off the boat.
