Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 3-14-2019

El Paso Herald, March 14, 1919:

[Connie] Mack has come forth now with the announcement that he is through—absolutely through—selling star players. He is going to keep his stars henceforth, he says, and he means to give Philadelphia fans the best brands of baseball they have seen since the days of the old champions—as soon as he can. Mack has a lot of promising young players and a few old-timers, and his club as it shapes up today is not to be sneezed at.

The 1919 Phiadelphia Athletics went 36-104. Sneeze away.

Connie indeed dismantled a dynasty and sold his star players again, in December 1933. After Mack sold Lefty Grove and Mickey Cochrane, the Athletics went 36 years and two relocations before finishing less than ten games out of first.

Today's Birthday Team features one Hall of Famer and one guy who inexplicably got 2.1% of the HOF vote and fell off the ballot after one year. I wrote the following a year ago [emphasis added this year]: "I don't care all that much about the Hall of Fame, but it's staggering to me that Kevin Brown got less than half as many votes as John Franco or Harold Baines in 2011."

So, yeah. Consider me staggered.

Which of Max Muncy or Michael Conforto should I draft in a fantasy league that uses OBP and TB instead of AVG and HR? For this year only and ignore any position eligibility for this question.

Re 2: Mr Cheatsheet's projection system (which I have never used before, but may try out this season) gives Conforto about 40 more bases at a cost of .001 of OBP. He also prjects Conforto to have about 100 more PAs.
