Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 5-21-2018

New York Sun, May 21, 1918:

With two out and the bases full in the fourteenth inning to-day Merlin Kopp of the Athletics stole home, beating Detroit by 5 to 4. Kopp had reached third on a pass, a steal, and Gardner’s single.

That would melt people’s brains if it happened now.

Elsewhere in the news 100 years ago today, Babe Ruth will be out of commission for a few days after fainting in a drug store on his way to the ballpark.

A good Birthday Team today. The starting rotation isn't spectacular, but it's solid. That should be good enough with this lineup.

3B: Eddie Grant (4.47 WAR)

SP: Doc Ayers (13.66 WAR)
SP: Mace Brown (11.07 WAR)
SP: Monty Stratton (10.3 WAR)
SP: Hank Johnson (4.71 WAR)
SP: Barry Latman (3.55 WAR)
RP: Andrew Miller (8.57 WAR)

We are downsizing our home and I'm looking to get rid of the baseball books I've accumulated over the years. I have Baseball Prospectus' going back to the beginning and the Big, Bad Baseball annuals before that, Stats Baseball Scoreboard books, Sickels and BA prospect books, various Hardball Times annuals and even a few Ken Warren player evaluation binders. I also have The Bill James books from 1983 to whenever he stopped writing them and some Elias Annuals too. I may keep the Bill James books but the rest are available to anyone who wants to come and get them. I live in Westchester County, NY so if you can get there on an upcoming weekend let me know.

I'm looking at the yankees BBREF page, and aside from walks, and the stats that walks affect, Stanton and Judge have nearly identical stats. Same numbers of games, doubles, HR, SB, and strikeouts. Judge has 8 more PA, 1 more run, 1 more hit, 1 fewer triples, 1 more CS, and 1 fewer TB. RBI are a bit different I guess, 8 more for Judge. But due to 18 more walks, Judge's rate stats are higher.
