I have to say Jon Rauch is the favorite to be the Last Active Expo, if he can stop having these incidents of dislocating his manager's jaw while trying to murder the umpire. But Bruce Chen is starting to suggest he could pitch into his 40s in a Ron Villone sort of way.
There are also four infielders who have had 4 or more straight seasons of 40 or more doubles, though the question I saw mentioned only the outfielders. No catchers have done it, as one might imagine. (Only two catchers have ever had two 40-double seasons at all.)
I did similar things for some recently departed players, but since Williams managed over 3,000 games this one ended up being a bit longer. It's organized by team, so you can just skim around fairly easily.
Also, one of the most famous games in baseball history occurred 20,000 days ago.
If he pitches into his 40s, he may put the record for most teams played for out of reach.
Needless to say, I hope it happens.
Speaker would be the obvious first guess.
And I'll refrain from the current guy, because like Justin, I looked it up when you mentioned it.
Edit: And Abreu is not.
Edit: and it's actually major-league outfielders, though four of them did it in the AL and only one in the NL.
Edit: Trying to set a record for most consecutive edits in a single post.
Edit: The singles leader is probably Markakis.
Magglio had three straight 2001-03 but did not prolong the streak.
I think Crispix was trying to figure out who the outfielder is who leads the AL in singles, not just one of the other four. Which, of course, JJ just answered.
"Active" leaders in doubles:
572 Ivan Rodriguez
547 Manny Ramirez
544 Todd Helton
542 Bobby Abreu
516 Chipper Jones
502 Johnny Damon
499 Scott Rolen
493 Alex Rodriguez
481 Derek Jeter
463 Miguel Tejada
459 Vladimir Guerrero
455 Orlando Cabrera
It's a record. Guys like Aaron, Rose, Murray, Ripken, Palmeiro, and B.Robinson all had a sub-150 game season in the middle of their careers.
List of top 200 players with seasons >= 150 games.
The next closest active player is Ichiro Suzuki (working on his 10th consecutive season).
Edit: Rose had seasons of 148 games and 149 games (1967-68), otherwise his string would have gone for 16 seasons (1965-1980).
What do you think, is it going to be Rauch?
This news pleases me.
Needless to say, I hope it happens.
Matt Stairs is up to 13 MLB teams (12 franchises). Chen's only at 10.
I'm pulling for Stairs to keep going on. Plus it would be cool if a player from BEFORE the Expos "Lost Season" is the last one going...
I don't know the answer, but Eric O'Flaherty is at 257.
When Matt Stairs was Bruce Chen's age, he'd only played for 6 clubs. Chen could really knock that total sky high, though he's going to need to kick this stability habit he's found in K.C.
Cla Meredith is still pitching????
My guesses:
Rafael Perez - 299 appearances, 3 saves
Peter Moylan - 281 appearances, 3 saves
David Robertson - 172 appearances, 2 saves
Craig Breslow - 266 appearances, 6 saves
Joe Thatcher - 164 appearances, 0 saves
Justin Miller - 183 appearances, 0 saves
Pat Neshek - 155 appearances, 0 saves
That fat guy on the Twins - 159 appearances, 0 saves
He had TJ in March or so. Out for the year.
Just doing a quick check, I see at least one of them have played for 23 of the 30 teams in the majors.
They have not, however, been on the same team at the same time.
(Stairs has faced Morgan and Chen as a batter, however.)
1) Name the 7 current teams for whom none of them have played even a single game in the majors.
2) Name the 1 team that all three of them have played for at some point.
When I looked it up, I was quite surprised.
He's finished almost 50 games in his career, and none of them are saves. Yet, he's a better than average pitcher (especially this year).
2) I think this would be the Blue Jays.
I'll dovetail from Crispix on Boston and Cincy, replacing them with Tampa and SF.
2) Name the 1 team that all three of them have played for at some point.
KC?
2. I know Morgan never played for the Royals although the other two have. I would say the Rangers?
2.) Bruce Chen was signed by Toronto, but he never played a major league game for them. AG#1F is correct: Texas Rangers.
Morgan/Stairs: Rangers, Reds, Orioles, Cubs, A's
Morgan/Chen: Rangers, Reds, Orioles
Stairs/Chen: Rangers, Phillies, Red Sox, Royals, Expos
Rays, Indians, White Sox, Angels, Marlins, Giants, Rockies
Thanks for looking that up. For the record, Abreu is now tied with Willie Mays at 13 straight 150-game seasons. If Abreu appears in 62 of the Angels' remaining 70 games, he'll have the record all to himself.
