Pittsburgh Press, July 27, 1917:

A new use for baseball slang has been found. The story is told by a writer describing the experiences of Americans inside the German lines…It was necessary that one American having knowledge of [the news] should acquaint another with what was going on, but the Germans were on watch, listening for every word.
...
[An American said to another:] “Nix on any of these spangled delicatessens (German officers) getting wise, but the umpire-in-chief has chased Heinie out of the lot for his rough work.

(The German ambassador at Washington has been handed his papers by President Wilson.)

“I get you. Are they going to play ball?”

(Are they going to war?)

“Sure, home team has gone to bat with all its stars in the game.”
“What’s the score?”
“Don’t know yet, but the other guys are a lot of bushers, tried to steal second with the bases full.”

Albert Pujols is in danger of passing the 100 WAR level twice, but this time in the wrong direction. He finished 2015 at 99.7 and passed 100 last year, but with his awful season is down to 100.0.

As far as I can tell, no player has ever reached 100 bWAR and then fallen under, at least on a seasonal level. If we went back to calculate day by day WAR for everyone I'm sure somebody would have reached 100 and gone 0-4 the next day or something like that.

#2--I may be misremembering a few details, but I think in football there was a guy who entered the final game of the season with a chance to be the first player ever to rush for 1000 yards in a season. Late in the 4th quarter he made a big run that gave him 1000 yards on the season, and there was a big celebration and recognition. ...And then a couple plays later he was tackled for a loss and they never got the ball back finished the season with 999 rushing yards.

Sabermetrician Bill James is exactly as old as George Washington was the day he died (24,767 days).

Actress Lindsay Lohan is exactly as old as Fritz Peterson was the day his wife-swapping news breaks (11,348 days).

It may be a good team, but you had to get creative to get Flaherty into the outfield. Unfortunately, sometimes Buck does too.

In other news, the White Sox traded Dan Jennings to Tampa. He's the fourth reliever traded away in a little over a week. They got one back in return: Tyler Clippard. Among those still there, one reliever threw over 40 pitches for the Sox last night. Two other relievers topped 30 pitches last night. And a fourth guy threw 18 pitches.
