Toledo News-Bee, August 3, 1911:

NEW YORK, Aug. 3.—Somebody lost his wooden leg at the Broadway exit of the American league baseball park late yesterday. A policeman found it and sent it to headquarters, where it was made the subject of a general order that every policeman in the city shall be on the lookout for the owner.

Well, he couldn’t have gotten far.

For the last season or two, I always confuse David Pauley with David Purcey. David Purcey pitched for the Jays until they sent him in a trade to the A's in April. But in May, they traded David Purcey to the Tigers. David Pauley pitched for the Mariners, but they traded David Pauley to the Tigers last week which was going to REALLY confuse me having David Pauley AND David Purcey on the same team. Luckily, the Tigers DFAed David Purcey, and kept David Pauley, but it makes me wonder - since they can't be on the same team together, are they the same person?

My favourite example of that is the two left-handed shooting left wingers named Greg Adams who played for the Vancouver Canucks in 1989.
They didn't play too many games together in Vancouver, but they did play some.

I'm also saddened that Javier Lopez never pitched to Javier Lopez while with Boston in 2006. Heck, they were never even in the same game at any time during their brief crossover in Boston.
