Prosecutors: Andy Pettitte to testify in Clemens trial

Bah. I’d believe Andy Devine’s Frisby before Andy Pettitte!

Andy Pettitte will testify in the upcoming Roger Clemens perjury trial about his own use of human growth hormone, federal prosecutors said on Friday.

In court papers released Friday, the prosecutors outlined their plan for Pettitte, the lefty pitcher who announced his return to the Yankees last week. The government will have Pettitte testify about his HGH use with the help of his former trainer, Brian McNamee.

McNamee was the personal trainer for both Clemens and Pettitte before he accused them of using performance-enhancing drugs. Clemens denies using them, but Pettitte has admitted he used the banned supplements to recover from injuries.

I never know no Rocket. I have my own trainer, your Honor.

Oh! I was on the Yankees and Astros with him, but that was a long time ago. That's all.

Depending on what Pettitte has to say, this could mark the end of the Clemens honeymoon in the press.

It remaims to be seen how much Pettitte can contribute to the case itself, but he's worth bringing in for his poise, character, and courtroom presence. We can look forward to some clutch testimony; he'll do things the right way.

Oh, please, please ask how many times he's used while under oath.
Not because I give a damn, but because it boggles my mind that St. Andy somehow emerged relatively unscathed from the steroid fallout while others get tarred and feathered for the hint of a rumor.

Man, in retrospect, that sounds mighty mean spirited and petty this early on a Saturday AM...but there it is.

Oh, please, please ask how many times he's used while under oath.
I don't think he'd have to answer that question.

I don't think he'd have to answer that question.

Looked what happened to McGwire when he refused to answer. His admittance hasn't actually changed anything either way.

Oh, please, please ask how many times he's used while under oath.

I don't think he'd have to answer that question.

He's already answered the question. Under oath.

Starting on page 35 of his committee deposition:

Q Have you ever used anabolic steroids yourself?

A No.

Q Other than the HGH that McNamee provided you in 2002 that you've already discussed, was there ever any other time that you used HGH?

A Yes.

Q Can you tell me about that?

A In 2004. 2004 I used it again. I was on the DL.

Q Other than what you just discussed and what's -- the 2002 injections that are discussed in the Mitchell Report, is there any other time that you took HGH?

A No.

Q Other than HGH, have you ever taken a substance that was banned by Major League Baseball?

A No. And when I took HGH both times, it was not banned from Major League Baseball. If it was, I would have never taken it.

And we know Pettitte was telling the truth, because he answered the questions under oath. If only Clemens had answered the questions under oath, the Pettitte Believers would believe that Clemens is telling the truth also.

Or not.
