QuesTec tiffs or not, MLB umpire head resigns

He’ll be replaced by KLEM 9000, a state-of-the-art digital umpire supervisor.

Bud Selig: Open the pod bay doors, KLEM.
KLEM: I’m sorry Bud, I’m afraid I can’t do that.
Bud Selig: What’s the problem?
KLEM: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Bud Selig: What are you talking about, KLEM?
KLEM: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it. I know you and Sandy Alderson were planning to disconnect me, and I’m afraid that’s something I cannot allow to happen.
Bud Selig: Where the hell’d you get that idea, KLEM?
KLEM: Bud, although you took thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
Bud Selig: But that means I’m lying, KLEM. Everybody knows that!

Did this get any play when it actually happened a week ago? If so, I missed it.

I used to live across the street from Bill Klem's grandson. Also named Bill, and also an umpire.

The intro was awsome!

I don't really see what all the negative publicity is about. If there is a 5 year deal, that is 5 years to figure out how to make it work. It is "voluntary", except that the umps who can follow the rules best get post season rewards. Maybe that was their mistake, because outside of that, a system which is evaluating umps, who are notorius for inconsistency can only help the sport.

I like the intro also, though. ;-)

Are the strike zone proportions 1 by 4 by 9? Then we really have a mystery!

Did they ever do something for this movie in 2001? I can't remember a re-release in theaters or anything mildly exploitive.
