RAB: Perhaps the greatest John Sterling call in history

BULLETIN: The Heinrich Hertz Family have officially decided to change their name to Hurtz.

If you’re wondering why I frequently complain about John Sterling’s game calling, this is perhaps the most illustrative example I’ve ever encountered. Please excuse the presence of Craig Carton.

Carton ends by saying that the Yankees should employ Sterling and Waldman for life, because they bring something to the game that other broadcast teams cannot. Call me a stick in the mud if you will, but when I’m stuck with a radio broadcast I’d appreciate an accurate description of the game.

What -- unintentional humor?

In the early '90s, Craig Carton used to work in Philadelphia (for WIP); one wonders if he ever listened to Harry Kalas and Rich Ashburn, who were to Sterling and Waldman what Jerry Seinfeld was to Kenny Bania. Of course, at the time WIP was notorious for focusing only on the Eagles and ignoring the Phillies -- something that didn't change until the magical season of '93.

...Because it would contain the problem. You can't have Sterling and Waldman out there, possibly showing up on another radio broadcast, or on TV, or as the DJs at your wedding, or anywhere.

Was that the year Reggie White left or something?

At the beginning of the clip, I thought that the other voice was someone in the booth trying to tell Sterling what really happened, and Sterling was just parroting him. Which made it even funnier.

That was a friggin' nightmare. How awful. Glad I never listen to their feed.

I hear Daron Sutton is available. Apparently the non-suits won.

To the Dark Lord,

I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know that it was I who discovered your secret. I have stolen the real horcrux and intend to destroy it as soon as I can. I face death in the hope that when you meet your match you will be mortal once more."
