Rangers scheduled to meet with Roy Oswalt on Monday

Righthander Roy Oswalt is scheduled to meet with the Rangers on Monday if he remains on the free-agent market that long.

Boston, St. Louis and Houston are also involved in the Oswalt sweepstakes. The Rangers have not made an offer, a person familiar with the situation said.

If Oswalt is really bargain basement priced now, that produces 2 reactions in my mind: (1) His back is shot, which is why the Phillies cut him loose, and any team signing him would be foolish to treat him as anything other than a lottery ticket;

(2) He is cheap enough by now that it is surprising that the Phillies haven't jumped in for a one year deal, since they could certainly use Oswalt's production on the cheap (better to have Blanton and Kendrick as your 6th and 7th starters than as your 5th and 6th ones).
