1. Cris E Posted: September 05, 2001 at 06:36 PM (#72401)He has a lot of young guys without any history of heavy use, he has Wilson's injury history, and he has a limited grasp of the subtleties of pitcher handling. It seems better to let everyone work better less often than actually do the work of developing young guys or managing fragile ones. It isn't a bad idea (it was proposed here for Clemens earlier this season), it may even be a good idea for this team, but reading this I don't think Hal is doing it for any particular reason. And if he doesn't have a larger plan he'll be in trouble when his six man bullpen gets worn out, or when the extra day off starts to work against someone, or if he doesn't account for all the extra days off in April. If someone else came up with this, even Tony L and Dave D in StL, I'd think it might be an interesting theory. From Hal I just think it's a random act of overmanagement in search of a problem, and he might be better served just letting the young guys develop.
