Red Sox Announce 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees

Kevin Youkilis, Derek Lowe, Mike Lowell and the late Buck Freeman are the 2018 inductees into the team Hall of Fame.

The July 21, 1959 major league debut of Pumpsie Green, who was the first African American player in Red Sox history, has been chosen as the “Memorable Red Sox Moment”

I like that the RSHoF has a more laid-back attitude than the HoF. Mike Lowell is not in the top 50 in WAR, or probably anything, in Red Sox history; he was with the team for a relatively brief tenure. But he was a great player for a great team, and loved by fans. I approve.

I also like that they enshrine "memorable moments", too, as a separate list. The list, in addition to the one in the start of the thread:

- Williams HR in his final AB
- Earl Wilson 1962 no-hitter
- Win on final day of 1967 season
- Carbo's pinch-hit 3-run HR in WS Game 6 in 1975
- Fisk WS Game 6 walk-off HR in 1975
- Clemens Ks 20 in 1986
- Dave Henderson's ALCS Game 5 HR in 1986
- Tom Brunansky's catch to clinch the division in 1990
- Pedro gives up 1 hit and Ks 17 against the Yankees in 1999
- Dave Roberts' SB in ALCS Game 4 in 2004
- Ortiz grand slam in the 2013 ALCS

What do you think they should add to the list?

I think Coco's catch to end the 2013 ALCS is up there. Pedro throwing 6 no-hit innings in relief in the 1999 ALDS Game 5. Pedro in the 1999 all-star game. Probably another 30 things by Pedro.

Why is Clemens' first 20K game there but not the 2nd?

Is there a time limit? Ernie Shore's perfect game (we all know it really was one) was pretty memorable.

Most Memorable Moment should have been Tom Yawkey preventing integration on the Sox, but I guess 12 years is more than "a moment".

If you need an actual "moment" for that, Jackie Robinson's sham tryout at Fenway Park on April 16, 1945 should do nicely.

When Babe Ruth hit a record 29 home runs in 1919, Buck Freeman was one of the historical figures he surpassed -- Buck hit 25 homers for Washington in 1899. As a consolation, Buck wound up outliving the Babe by 10 months.

"It sounds like the fans are really upset, but they are actually yelling 'Buck'."

Fred Lynn’s 10 RBI game
Ted Williams ASG walk off
Johnny Damon grand slam in the 2004 ALCS
JD Drew $14 million grand slam
Troy O’Leary’s 7 RBI in game 5 1999

I’d love to see the last one especially. It’s the kind of thing that would be well served by the RSHoF. It’s amazing stuff and while Pedro (rightly) was the star that night without O’Leary channeling Ted Williams it wouldn’t have mattered and Pedro is plenty well remembered. In 30 years I’d love to have the chance to tell a grandchild about O’Leary’s constributions that night.

No Schilling bloody sock game?

There's a bunch more postseason Ortiz hits/homers that could qualify as Hall of Fame moments.

I've mentioned before attending the meaningless Red Sox-Yankees 1986 season finale at Fenway. Cops on horseback lined the field, a la 1980 Phillies WS win, for no apparent reason with two outs in the 9th. game ends, and one guy jumps onto the field from CF - and immediately looks back and realizes that no, his pals will NOT join him in this caper after all.

he then runs around the field like a squirrel in traffic, with stocky cops chasing him in vain as the crowd goes wild before the inevitable finally happens. definitely memorable.

I want a good biography of Youk. The back story is interesting, plus I want to find out about him and his teammates and that sham marriage he had. Now he is Brady's brother-in-law.

Wikipedia!
In November 2008, Youkilis and Enza Sambataro held a wedding ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, although the couple never formalized their wedding... The couple split up in 2010.
So if it wasn't "formalized" then they didn't do the paperwork and/or the person who "married" them wasn't legally recognized as having that power.

My recollection from when the news of the breakup came out is that Youk and Enza didn't do the paperwork and made no attempt to be officially married. Enza could have her own book.
