I can't get past the name Dr. Praeger's. Can you make your product sound anymore like medicine? They are healthier than others, it would seem.

Bocas are a bit dry. They are very polarizing. Some love them, some hate them. I certainly like the Morningstar line, especially the chicken stuff and the black bean versions.

The super-realistic ones are:

Veggie burgers are awful. But I'm very interested in trying the Beyond Meat burger.

A burger made from smoked meat seems awful. It would dry out the meat and introduce a flavor that wouldn't go well with a traditional burger.

Morningstar stuff is good. I've liked all the gardein products I've tried, too. The fishless filets are amazingly sort-of fishlike.

Not necessarily. I think you could pull it off.

Says who? Smoked beef is fantabulous.

The best veggie burgers - and veggie anything really (sausages dogs loaf sliced) is field roast.

At times in conversation i or others have forgotten the name and just called it "the good one" and have never had a miscommunication.

Before discovering field roast I thought Morningstar was decent as long as you didn't eat it too frequently.

My vegan wife likes beyond meat. I think they are awful. Dr preagers are decent. Very potatoey. Basically like a veggie flavored hash brown patty.

The one I really want to try is The Impossible Burger, which they are currently rolling out in hip restaurants to try and maximize hype. But it looks good. I have some vegan friends that tried one at Umami Burger in Los Angeles and they loved it.

There's a vegan burger place in NYC called Superiority Burger that has immense hype, it was one of the most talked about restaurants in the city (and hence the nation) a couple years ago. That's on my list too.

It's... okay. Kind of an "uncanny valley" burger in my opinion, though. I'd rather have a real burger or a well-seasoned black bean patty. Trying to emulate a real burger is probably a hopeless cause; I like the black bean burger approach of making something that patently isn't trying to be a beef burger but is good in its own right.

Discussing vegetarian options in a Pablo Sandoval thread? Geeez, show a little respect for the recently departed.

As a burger lover without much experience eating veggie patties, it's... pretty good, I think. On its own, the patty doesn't quite taste like hamburger meat; but dressed up with cheese and stuff, it doesn't *not* taste like a burger. I would also recommend cheese for structural purposes: the patty tends to fall apart pretty easily.

(I've tried it at Jardiniere and Cockscomb in SF)
