Reddick: Yankees fans ‘disrespectful’ for throwing debris

NEW YORK (AP) — Houston Astros right fielder Josh Reddick called out Yankees fans for tossing water bottles, baseballs and other objects on the field during New York’s 4-1 loss in the AL Championship Series on Tuesday night.

“You throw a baseball hard enough and hit somebody in the head when they’re not looking, it could do some damage to the player, so it’s definitely disrespectful and at the same time very unsafe,” Reddick said.

Fans erupted after a replay review changed Edwin Encarnación’s infield hit leading off the eighth to a groundout. Houston went on to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Ducky Medwick has known worse….

Medwick had a great quote about the supposedly rotten fruit and vegetables that Tigers fans threw at him.

Said Medwick, “Well, I knew why (the Tiger fans) threw that garbage at me. What I don’t understand is why they brought it to the park in the first place.”

A TAG is the action of a fielder in touching a base with his body while holding the ball securely and firmly in his hand or glove; or touching a runner with the ball, or with his hand or glove holding the ball (not including hanging laces alone), while holding the ball securely and firmly in his hand or glove. It is not a tag, however, if simultaneously or immediately following his touching a base or touching a runner, the fielder drops the ball. In establishing the validity of the tag, the fielder shall hold the ball long enough to prove that he has complete control of the ball. If the fielder has made a tag and drops the ball while in the act of making a throw following the tag, the tag shall be adjudged to have been made.
I think it's pretty clear that the 1B's glove made contact with the runner before the runner's foot made contact with the base. It wasn't contact by the webbing of the glove where the ball was contained, but that's immaterial. By definition the tag needs contact with the glove holding the ball.

Granted, I say "it's pretty clear" based on zaprudering of the replay. It wasn't clear live, and it wasn't even clear on first review of the replay. But if you freeze the replay just before the runner's foot touches the base, and then watch the glove as you move the video forward from there, it's clear the glove was already in contact at that time.

They're a spirited group, they are. I especially liked their "Houston sucks" chant they launched into during the postgame festivities. Down 2-1, but Houston sucks.

There's Chris Christie's brother, second row, 1 o'clock.
