Report: Cops Looking Into Hanley Ramirez’s Possible Connection To Fentanyl Trafficking Ring

ABC investigative journalist Michele McPhee says authorities are looking into Hanley Ramirez’s possible relationship to a large fentanyl distribution case in Massachusetts.

McPhee, who broke the news of Aaron Hernandez’s murder charges in 2013, told WBZ-FM Friday afternoon that during a car stop in which police found a “significant amount of drugs,” the suspect claimed an item found in the vehicle belonged to Ramirez—and then proved by it FaceTiming the three-time All-Star in front of cops. That car stop, according to McPhee, “coordinated with the timing of his release from the Red Sox.”

Holy ####. Take that, Esteban Loaiza.

Is Hanley retaining Pedro Guerrero's lawyer?

the fentanyl rumours have been ought there for some time. When this latest story broke on Reddit a day or two ago, the fentanyl stuff was mentioned although there was no real source, journalist or other. Just rumours.

KarlMagnus to the white courtesy phone, karl are you here?

Is this more Red Sox smearing of another player? Maybe the FO planted the drugs, I'm sure you think DD would go to such lengths....

Is he flashing a gang sign in the photo?
   6. karlmagnus Posted: June 24, 2018 at 10:37 AM (#5698650)
I don't suppose the actual case is Red Sox smearing, no, but the evidence linking Hanley to any crime is very circumstantial. We shall see.

The heavy media spin that of course, this proves that Hanley is a major drug dealer, THAT's the Henry crime syndicate. He does own the Globe, after all.

Wow, Red Sox must be bummed they cut him. If he gets arrested/indicted, they could have put him on the restricted list, and wouldn't have had to pay him.

The bigger question is, how will MLB cover this up to persecute the Yankees?

Which of his former teammates will Hanley implicate when he cuts a deal with the prosecutors?

I’m not conspiracy-minded so I’ll withhold any judgement until I see something that makes me skeptical, like appointing a member of the Red Sox board of directors to lead the investigation.

Well, when $22,750,000.00 per year (and over $159 million in career earnings) just doesn't cover the monthly nut, you have to find some employment, right?
   12. The Duke Posted: June 24, 2018 at 12:08 PM (#5698674)
Seems hard to believe given how much money he has (or has made). I guess one could argue that since players are dealing with less than trustworthy people in the PED space, you could see how a Pete Rose style event could happen. Isn’t this one of the reasons to have an agent ? To help keep you from doing stupid things?

An agent should be there there to tell you not to invest in your brother-in-law's nightclub or your friend's jet-ski dealership. You really shouldn't need an agent to tell you not to get involved in an illegal drug ring.

18. The evidence would suggest otherwise
   20. cardsfanboy Posted: June 24, 2018 at 07:46 PM (#5698867)
Supposedly he's not under investigation more than likely a friend of his name dropped him, hoping to get out of trouble.

Instead, a (probably now former) friend of Ramirez’s name-dropped him in an attempt to avoid arrest after being caught transporting fentanyl from New York to Massachusetts in April.

As I suspected, the story has now been exploded, at least as far as Hanley is concerned, and the tsunami of negative publicity was clearly the usual sliming by the revolting Henry gang through their Boston Globe house organ. (Why was it not possible to publish the exonerating evidence at the same time as the accusation?)

It is very difficult to support a team run by such people.

I think the Globe was actually the place that broke the story that Hanley wasn't being investigated himself. It was an ABC reporter who initially fingered Hanley in all this.

Come on, the line that the Red Sox smear all their players after they leave isn't going to perpetuate itself.

It was a clear practice up until 13 years ago, when it somewhat abruptly stopped or at least went down to the levels seen with players on other teams. And the abrupt end happened when Theo Epstein quit the team, among other reasons because he felt leaks like this were not in the team's best interests while other people (notably his boss, Lucchino) apparently disagreed.

It stopped 13 years ago, and was debunked here over 8 years ago.

That's good stuff. I particularly enjoy the certainty by some in the thread that Beckett was going to be more valuable than Lackey. I'm not saying that thinking was irrational, I probably agreed with it, but boy did it not work out that way.

Turned out the ownership group had another one in them for old times sake.

Terry - Contract not renewed. Pill popping adulterer who couldn't be bothered to control the players.

In the wake of an epic collapse, burn the manager and coaches, the players, the front office, and the ownership team except Lucchino. Gee, I wonder who could have sourced the anonymous stories.

If the hiring of Bobby Valentine is what eventually led Lucchino to recognize he should GTFO of baseball ops, then that tire fire of a season was worth it.
