Now that we're in the cold-weather part of the year, it only makes sense to do that if your set doesn't have much tread life left. Nobody wants to hit a patch of black ice and skid into a pole.

Surprised that Garcia hadn't accumulated even 10 WAR. Well he had, but his 2018 performance worth -.5 WAR dropped him to 9.9 for his career.

As recently as the beginning of the 2016 I had high hopes for a seemingly healthy Garcia, who was, at age 29, fresh off a shortened season (one of many for him) in which he put up 3.9 WAR in 20 starts after coming off the DL in late May, with a 2.43 era (3.00 FIP) and 1.04 WHIP.

But Garcia struggled to find a groove in 2016, his first healthy full season since 2011, and the Cardinals traded him to the Braves for his walk year, and he ended up pitching for 5 teams in 2017-2018 while never being effective for any of them.

Garcia showed tremendous promise as a one of the better sinkerball pitchers to come along in recent years, but he missed most of the 2009, 2013 and 2014 seasons and had a truncated 2012 and 2015.

I guess that's why league-average innings eaters will always have value---there's something to be said for showing up.
