Reports: Canseco’s new book expected by Opening Day ‘08

Disappointed by the Mitchell report, Canseco hopes to publish “an unjaundiced view, without the rose-colored glasses” of steroid use in baseball, Saunooke told The Post.

“The book is basically going to be—I don’t want to say an attack—but it will be a clarification of why certain names should have been mentioned [in the Mitchell report] that were not mentioned,” Saunooke said of the new book. “We had hoped that the Mitchell report would have been more revealing. It basically ended up being nothing more than [Mitchell saying], ‘I talked to a lot of people, some people wouldn’t talk to me and it’s up to the commissioner,’” Saunooke told The Daily News.

Probability of an A-Rod mention: 1

The blurb about this in my morning paper noted that Canseco had accused McGwire of using steroids in his first book. It was followed by the boilerplate disclaimer that "McGwire has denied using steroids."

Is that really true? Did McGwire ever deny it? I thought he wasn't here to talk about the past.

well its a small sample size for sure, but i have to give it to Jose so far. He is batting 1000.

Of course he does, because there is no such thing as confirmed steroid-free so his claims can't be disproved by testing. Which gives him a 1.000 batting average by definition.

I'll grant you that.

I guess the point I was trying to make is, as much I would hate to see dirt on A Rod, the man claims he has something on Alex, and is hell bent on publishing it. Never mind his motives.

He hasn't been wrong yet.

That concerns me.

I doubt Jose has any real dirt on A-Rod. Considering he never played with him.

I think Swedish Chef's point was that you can't know this.

We had the report. The alleged users in the report have already had their names tarred. I'm sure they'll be more. So can't Canseco go away? He was a total fraud as a player and now he wants to be the White Knight? STFU and don't let the door hit you.

PED-enhanced performances don't count.

So, will these be names he had when he wrote the first book, but chose not to reveal? Or will he claim to have new information?

I doubt that many people in MLB are actually talking to him, so I'm not sure where any new information would be coming from. And if he had information on ARod before the first book and chose not to name him, the question that comes up is "Why"?
