Ringolsby: Girardi may be losing control in Florida

Problems began during spring training when Girardi belittled suggestions by members of the organization that Ricky Nolasco and Josh Johnson should be in the rotation instead of middle relief, where they opened the season. It was more than a month before Girardi backed down and gave both opportunities to start, which turned out to be a critical factor as the Marlins rebounded from a miserable start to be competitive.

Girardi might be wise to heed the words of former big league exec Buzzie Bavasi.

“We operated by the Golden Rule,” Bavasi said. “He who has the gold rules.”

This organization has real problems.

This organization has real problems.

Are you talking about Loria/Samson in the front office or Girardi on the bench? I get the impression that the players dislike Girardi's micromanaging, but that he lost his job/quickly was rehired because he told Loria to quiet down instead of yelling at the ump. Sounds like Loria took Girardi's comments personally and threw a hissy fit.

• Girardi has had friends making it known in Chicago that he would like the Cubs job. The Cubs, however, aren't interested.

Don't worry too much, Joe. If the Fish fire you, there are several other managerial jobs that will be available. Speaking of jobs...

• Washington general manager Jim Bowden is still uncertain about his future. New team president Stan Kasten did announce that Bowden is the GM after new ownership took over, but that might have been more an effort to end speculation than anything else. No contract has been signed.

Like the situation involving Frank Robinson, Kasten may have been reluctant to change horses in midstream, perhaps because in the offseason, Kasten may be able to corral the horse he really wants as GM. (Frank Wren?)

Speculation on what it will take to sign Pierre, however, ranges from the belief Pierre will take a cut from this year's $5.75 million salary to the idea the three-year, $39 million overpayment the Dodgers gave shortstop Rafael Furcal last winter will be a basis for talks.

My favorite part was the comment that the Cubs wouldn't hesitate if someone showed interest in Glendon Rusch. Wouldn't hesitate...to hold a party announcing that there is a more stupid team in baseball than the Cubs?

The first game I saw Girardi manage was this one, where he brought Johnson in in the 8th with a three run lead and then did nothing as he died on the mound and was picked apart by buzzards. That left a pretty negative impression on me regarding Girardi as a manager. He was (still is) new to the job but it seemed pretty crappy to me.
