Rob Dibble’s high school baseball head coaching career lasted just 10 games, because his team’s ERA was above 5

The Devil gets in a right cross.

“They said I wasn’t a good fit,” Dibble told Times reporter Eric Sondheimer in a text message on Tuesday night. “I just got a job calling Angels games for Compass Media. In giving some early notice I couldn’t continue as head coach after the season, I was asked to step down immediately.

Please, oh lord, let "Compass Media" be something I never have to encounter....

Yeah, this frightens the #### out of me.

I don't hate anyone Asian as I hate Rob Dibble the announcer.

Is that what happened? I thought I was missing out on some new BTF meme or something.

Not missing out, just in on the ground floor. Where's Chris Wok when you need him?

History's greatest monster would be someone named Kim Jong Dibble. I bet there's a Kim Jong Dibble in Texas somewhere.

"Is that what happened? I thought I was missing out on some new BTF meme or something."

My thought process:
1. WTF?
2. Must be an autocorrect thing
3. That has great meme potential, somebody is going to work it into a handle.

So, without saying why he was let go, they allude to his temper. My guess is he started throwing tantrums when it became clear his players could not validate his coaching theories on the field.

Baseball Mogul once auto-generated an outfielder named Nate Hitler. I had to draft him, of course.

#10 I don't get why anybody would hire Dibble as a coach. While it's true that he was briefly a dominant major league pitcher, his success was totally based on pure power and that's not something you can teach.

And #18 "started off well and then ..."

OK you hosers!
Can someone explain the meaning of the FORTAN code in 2, then the meaning of 3 and 4 as well?
I sort of get 3, but what to "asians" have to do with Rob Dibble.
I only posted this because it has the video of Teuful getting a punch square in Dibble's face (not totally apparent from that camera angle and speed, unfortunately). The report after the game was that the Mets clubhouse was repeatedly showing slo-mo of the punch with a big roar of approval each time.

I've switched to a new computer and lost all my Baseball Mogul stuff, sadly, so I can't say. And a Google search for "Baseball Mogul Nate Hitler" doesn't turn up anything.

Good ol' Nate never reached the majors, as I recall. He was a late-round draft choice. Outfielder, decent plate discipline but not much of a hitter otherwise.

That actually does sound right, somehow, unless you wanted him to be a pitcher like Fidel.

Are you kidding? I got 69,300 hits! Looking through them now...

No, wait, I got fired.

Just wait until he becomes a manager. Then #### gets real.

I do have to say that, if I were the programmer, I wouldn't have included "Hitler" in the game engine.

As I understand it, earlier versions of the game included aliens if you played long enough, but I never did it, and then they took it out. That sucks.

I would think the assumption is that, having played baseball as a youth for 10 years or so and then having spent 5 years in the minors and another 7 in the bigs, he learned something about the game which he could impart to young players. Now I would never make that assumption about Rob Dibble, but I'm sure there are people out there who would.
   32. SG Posted: March 28, 2013 at 02:21 PM (#4398590)
I saw Dibble pitch in this game. You could hear him dropping the F-Bomb after every pitch that missed the strike zone (17 of 28) until he was mercifully pulled.

One of the GMs would become an alien in the picture. Also if you played long enough, Pittsburgh's GM would become a cat. I always liked that.

Yeah, but he's kind of a big deal. People know him. His apartment probably smells like mahogany. Don't ever forget how blinded some people get with 'fame'.

Years ago there was a "George Hitler" who lived in Cincinnati. I viewed his property records online (public database) and even took a phonecall from him when I had a McJob answering an 800 number.

I am not making this up.

Here's his Twitter feed!

My best OOTP name was Armstrong Legg.
   46. zonk Posted: March 28, 2013 at 05:42 PM (#4398711)
That's one place where OOTP falls short: the names files.

I rarely get interesting names, though -- I do annoyingly get nonsensical names where I assume the db corrupted or someone tried to get fancy with an umlaut or accent (I.e. Thomas L^% ui #)

Fortunately, the names db is relatively easy to edit and there are more than a few good name generators people have built...
   47. Fernigal McGunnigle Posted: March 28, 2013 at 06:04 PM (#4398720)
These days in OOTP I usually use a fantasy/sci-fi name database that I generated myself. I am ashamed to admit how much time I put into it. But it's worth it every time Starkiller Trashmaster, Keen Eyes Senior, Plumpton Butter, Ramage Nifo, or Porthaur the Bloody-Handed comes up to bat against Sarevok Golightly of the Mos Eisley Dracoliches.
   48. OsunaSakata Posted: March 28, 2013 at 06:39 PM (#4398740)
I gave this guy his nickname when the computer came up with the random first and last name combination.

This is a well-known Middle Earth OOTP league.

For Baseball Mogul, I changed the faces of the GMs early on. So I was negotiating trades with Daffy Duck, Tinky-Winky, Queen Elizabeth II, etc.
