Rockies: Guthrie lands on 15-day DL after bike accident

Guthrie: Bicycle Chain Around My Leg

Jeremy Guthrie has become the latest Colorado Rockie to land on the disabled list because of a freak accident.

The Rockies pitcher was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday after injuring his right shoulder in a bike accident earlier in the day.

Guthrie had been riding his bike to the stadium when the chain came off his Cannondale bicycle, sending him falling to the ground and jamming the right-hander’s shoulder.

He underwent an MRI that showed no structural damage to his throwing shoulder. Manager Jim Tracy said Guthrie was just dealing with pain in his AC joint, and that he would “miss a couple of starts.”

Why does this stuff only happen to baseball players?

That's it, I give up. Just let these f*cking little pussies go back to taking their steroids again, because this is absolutely ridiculous.

Drew Pomeranz also came out of last night's game with "forearm stiffness," and may miss a start or two. Rockies may be looking for a phone number for Byung-Hyun Kim.

It's common to have trouble coping with the altitude, for bike fans who move to Denver from places like Baltimore.

Moscoso gets a chance to start...to see if he's the new Greg Smith.

Could be worse, he could have ended up like poor Ernest Chausson.

Should have been riding a Trek.

Nevermind. I see it was Moscoso. Yawn.

Assuming the article is correct about what happened, I don't see how the altitude would cause the chain to come off.

No way Moscoso's pickoff move is that good.

Guthrie should ride to the stadium on a Hoveround like Jamie Moyer.

I was wondering if he went into the mountain or over the cliff.

When cerebro-sprocketal edema disorients your derailleur, you need to pop it in a Gamow bag and ship it back to sea level, stat.

That old USAToday feature on Guthrie that is linked in the article had him riding a Cannondale Hooligan, which is a unique bike (basically a full-size MTB but with 20" wheels, more similar to a folding bike than anything else). I was expecting a boring $10,000 road bike, and a ungraceful fall.

But if that is the Cannondale mentioned in this article, then he was probably getting rad when he hurt himself, because it is impossible to ride that bike without getting rad.
