Rockies owner Dick Monfort to angry Rockies fan: “don’t come!”

“I pretty much just filled out the survey and kinda wrote a little bit about how it’s frustrating to spend the money and go see [Rockies] teams that are constantly struggling all the time,” said Ferguson.

Two days later, he found out his comments did not go unnoticed. Ferguson received a reply in his inbox simply stating, “If product and experience that bad don’t come!”… signed owner, chairman and CEO of the Colorado Rockies Dick Monfort.

The customer is always…

The Monfort brothers are both known to be nasty drunks, though Charlie has had a few more "incidents" become public than Dick. Sounds like a likely lapse in judgement brought on by too much tippling.

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID.

On the one hand, while the CEO's response won't win any customer service excellence awards, that is basically the choice made by every fan, after all. If you don't like it, don't go.

On the other hand, Ferguson has a point: put a decent team on the field and fans will show up.

So they're both right, and oh so wrong.

So does this mean that the Rockies plan to sign high-character players who love Jesus hasn't worked?

Having had to deal with a ton of customer survey responses let me just say I can appreciate Monfort's response. Don't know if it was warranted in this particular case but a lot of times that would be the best response.

I will say anyone who buys a ticket and is upset with the record of the team on the field is kind of stupid to be complaining about spending money on a team with a lousy record.

More Monfort:

Q: Specifically, fans want to know about (general manager) Dan O'Dowd and (assistant GM) Bill Geivett. What is your stance on Dan these days?

Monfort: "I have stuck behind both of them. I think they are really good baseball people. I think, if you are looking to make a change, there has got to be a better option. I am criticized by you guys for saying (O'Dowd) is a good baseball man. But I think Dan does a good job. I like the team we have out here. I liked the team in spring training. Why it's not performing? I don't have the answers."

And on the possibility CarGo and Tulo will ask for trades:

I haven't talked to CarGo. All I know is that they love it here. Most offensive players do. I assume they are happy (here), but none of us is happy with losing. None of us. But there is nobody more disgusted about losing than I am. It's a direct reflection on my leadership, and I shoulder that. This isn't Dan (O'Dowd's) problem. This isn't (Bill) Geivett's problem. This is my problem. And for the life of me, I don't know how our record got to be where it is."

Your pitching sucks and that should have been expected. Oh, and you should probably be scoring more runs.

The pitchers road ERA would lead the league by a good margin. In fact only Texas has a higher ERA overall than the Rockies have on the road.

Back when I ran adult softball leagues, I'd get the 'well, we'll just play in (x) city next season'. When I first started, those kind of complaints upset me. No one wants to lose a customer, after all. Of course, after I heard the same threats from the same teams year after year I knew that they were just empty threats. If a team was really a pain, I would say 'gee, we'd hate to see you go, but if you think (x) city might better meet your needs, don't hesitate to contact them. '

Every woman knows yelling "Don't come!" forces men to do the opposite.

As Yogi Berra would say, "If people don't want to come to the ball park, you can't stop them."
