Rockies rookie Drew Pomeranz arrested for disturbing the peace

Occupy Oxford!

Rockies rookie pitcher Drew Pomeranz was arrested early this morning in Oxford, Miss. and charged with disturbing the peace.

Pomeranz, a left-hander who was considered the centerpiece of the Ubaldo Jimenez trade, was arrested at 1:25 a.m. after leaving a bar with friends, according to the Oxford (Miss.) Eagle. He was released on cash bond at 4:40 a.m.

The Rockies issued a statement this afternoon, saying they were aware of the “unfortunate incident” involving Pomeranz.

“We have been in contact with Drew and his representatives and we will continue to gather more information,” the statement said. “Both Drew and our organization understand the serious nature of the situation.”

That's ok. The Crimson Tide are going to be arrested Saturday night in Oxford for massacring Ole Miss.

He better not have been punching with his pitching hand.

How do they know it's serious? Maybe he pissed on a lamppost, or was being loud and unserious. I can't wait for some spokeswoman to intone on something to do with a reflection on the organization and blahblahblah our fans.

"Disturbing the peace" is almost invariably not "serious" as far as criminal charges go. I'm guessing he was being loud and obnoxious and got mouthy with a cop.

Given that it's the Rockies, the "serious" part is probably that he was in a a bar at 1:30 in the morning.

Nah. If he'd done something as bad as whipping his dongue out in public, he wouldn't have gotten away with a disturbing the peace charge. He'd be a registered sex offender by now...

At least they'll be easy for the authorities to identify, what with their bare feet and twine belts and all.

I'm guessing the "do you know who I am" card was pulled.
