Roger Clemens Will Make 2nd Start For Skeeters

Maddux redux to continue…

Roger Clemens is planning to make a second start for the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League, Fox 26 in Houston reported Wednesday night.

In a text message to the television station, Clemens wrote that he will start for Sugar Land on Sept. 7, against the Long Island Ducks. Among the former major league players on the Ducks are Timo Perez and Armando Benitez.

Pitching for the first time in five years, the 50-year-old Clemens tossed 3 1-3 scoreless innings Saturday night for the Skeeters.

...The Skeeters already have sold out of Clemens jersey T-shirts, according to ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell. They are available on the team’s website but backordered.

I am hoping he makes it to the weekend of September 15th to Bridgeport. I have tickets.

But it looks like he may only be doing home games.

Cool.

Timo Perez faced Clemens 11 times in MLB, getting 2 singles. I bet he never expected a 12th at-bat...

Perez hit .409/.500/.727 in 26 PA's against Maddux.:-)

Will some MLB team desperate for attention take a chance on him down the stretch, hoping he can pull off a 1978 Jim Bouton-like win or two?

Timo Perez

I will always remember T.I.M.O for one of all time great blogosphere nicknames.

Edit : Close contest with The Run Fairy from the Cadillac days of chatter.

Another Edit : F-Troop has to be in the discussion too.

Of course, Timo is most remembered for a baserunning blunder in the World Series.

I fully expected that my next Timo Perez sighting would be in his obituary some time in the distant future.

What? You mean the Astros haven't signed Clemens yet?

How old is Timo? Let's see, I'm guessing...36? I would say older but if he's still playing for the Ducks.

And the answer is: 37! I was pretty close. How about that.

EDIT: And Timo won a ring with the White Sox. I had totally forgotten that. Those White Sox might be the all-time leader in "Oh yeah, that guy got a ring with them" players. Geoff Blum! El Duque! Carl Everett! Chris Widger!

no way is he going to travel...when I worked with Bridgeport they made concessions to guys like TJ Matthews and Deivi Cruz that they only had to play in a certain number of road games....and those were 4 hour bus trips to NJ and PA....not flights from TX to NY.

What was it?

I think it was "This Idiot Makes Outs" which I always thought was unfair and unnecessarily insulting. "This Individual Makes Outs" is better.

Oh, no, I won't be trapped that easily next time. I have forewarning.
