Rolling Stone: Epstein: Our Rock & Roll Baseball Experts Make Hall of Fame Picks

Jack Morris? Thurman Munson? More reasons rock dudes should stick to covering The Unbelievable Uglies…and not the Hall Of Fame!

Name: Steve Earle

Thurman ####### Munson. No doubt he would have made it had he lived — and besides, batting average isn’t everything. Munson was the heart and soul of the New York Yankees and the first captain since Lou Gehrig, fer-####’s-sake! C,mon!

Name: Steve Wynn: Band: The Baseball Project

Oh, man. There are so many. In fact, you could also ask about players who are in the HoF who shouldn’t be there, but we can save that for another time. I’ll skip the scandal-tainted names like Pete Rose and Joe Jackson (both of whom I think should be there) and I’ll go with Jack Morris, a pitcher who, despite a higher than average HoF-qualifying ERA, completely dominated his time in the game and won three World Series rings with three different teams, including that awe-inspiring performance for the Twins in Game 7 back in 1991. Oh, and my wife’s dad regularly has breakfast in the same diner as Morris back in Minnesota, so it would give him the excuse to go up and offer his congratulations.

Name: George Thorogood: Band: George Thorogood and the Destroyers

Lee Smith — check his stats!

You've lost one of the seven remaining Dream Syndicate fans, Steve Wynn.

An accompanying Rolling Stone link promises to reveal "The 10 Coolest Summer Albums of All Time," a pantheon which I imagine was quantified with the same rigor that the drummer for Pantera uses.

And I'm reserving judgment until I find out whether Karl Precoda would have voted for Blyleven.

Jack Morris didn't exactly help win the 1992 series.

He should have voted for Deacon White, inventor of the chest protector.

Ok, here's my guess. Spent two minutes on it:

Paul's Boutique
Harder They Come
Superfly
Pet Sounds
Meat Puppets II
Dusty Springfield in Memphis
Nashville Skyline
Sublime
Maggot Brain
Nebraska

As U2's The Joshua Tree said, the only winning move is not to play.

Are we sure that's not Jimmy Page?

I am not threatened by GregD's alternative lifestyle.

Probably less Jimmy Page than Marc Bolan, now that I think about it.

Why didn't they ask Eddie Trunk? He loves talking about Halls Of Fame.

I thought Steve Wynn was a casino magnate.

Three of these guys (Scott Ian, Pete Yorn, Alice Cooper) think Pete Rose should be in. Handsome Dick Manitoba is primping for Felipe Alou. Scott McCaughey thinks Mario Mendoza belongs since "he had a line named after him, for gosh sake" (insert joke about "lines" here). As mentioned already, Steve Earle is pro-Thurman Munson, while Steve Wynn is big on Jack Morris. And if I'm reading correctly, Vinnie Paul thinks Ron Washington should be in because of what he might do as a manager.

So why is anyone taking this seriously, again?

Who's taking it seriously? This thread was fifteen mostly-offtopic jokes, which no one had posted in for over 24 hours before you came in to resurrect it.

Harder They Come

Jimmy Cliff has a new album out, and one of the songs is a cover of "Guns of Brixton", which is in part, an homage to the movie "The Harder they Come"

It was apparently considered sufficiently meaningful to post here for reading and comment.

Not unheard of at this site, given what I've seen.

which no one had posted in for over 24 hours before you came in to resurrect it.

Is there an imposed time limit on making thread comments around here? If so, I'm sure the site's monitors will let me know.

Just because an article has been posted here does not mean anyone takes it seriously.

Not unheard of at this site, given what I've seen.

Normally, if people take something seriously, they'll post seriously about it. If all the posts are either off-topic or flippant mockery, that's a sign that no one's taking it seriously.

Is there an imposed time limit on making thread comments around here? If so, I'm sure the site's monitors will let me know.

Well, if people were taking this article seriously, they'd be posting about it. Coming into a no-traffic thread about an article that no one takes seriously to ask why people are taking the article seriously is weird. That's why I commented on it. Do you see where the disconnect comes in?

I see from your profile that you joined BTF in 12/08. Way to not pay any attention to a sizable percentage of the posted topics for 3-plus years.

Maybe it's yy/mm and he's a time traveler trying to warn us not to take this thread seriously. Naturally, by telling us not to take seriously something we weren't taking seriously, he has created a metathread which will destroy the universe.

Really, how many times do Albert Belle and I have to tell you kids to stop messing with the space-time continuum and to get off our lawns?

EDIT: interstingly, my brain had meant to type "internet" and instead typed "universe". The upcoming destruction of the universe is probably all my fault then. C'est la vie.
