Rosenthal: Arruebarrena’s deal with #Dodgers: 5 yrs, $25M. Includes $7.5M signing bonus.

Sorry to have to link to Twitter. I can’t find an actual article anywhere.

Seems like an awful lot for a guy whose upside is considered to be as a Mark Belanger/Adam Everett/Brendan Ryan type player. Granted those guys were legit above average players, but if he's just as likely to go Ray Oyler on them...

Wouldn't Everett get $5 million a year nowadays?

The Dodgers routinely pay more than they need to pay for things, just to show that they can.

And set the market so other teams can't.

That doesn't make any sense.

If the next high bid for someone I want is $20M, I don't achieve anything by paying $35M, rather than $22M. It's not like the $35M becomes "the new market price" and now everyone else has to pay it. The market price for future guys will still be set by what everyone else is willing to pay.

You can't lock other teams into overspending by overspending yourself. All you've done is hurt yourself by spending too much money.

His defensive upside is a Gold Glove shortstop - that is where the comps to Belanger/Everett/Ryan lie - his bat is a work in progress but there is potential to be a decent hitter unless he turns into the next Yuniesky Betancourt.

So...Jose Iglesias? Or Adeiny Hechevarria?
