Rosenthal: Scioscia could see Manny in Angels uniform

Scioscia, appearing Monday with Roger Lodge and Dave Smith on AM 830 KLAA, heartily endorsed the idea of the Angels signing Ramirez as a free agent.

The remarks by Scioscia were the second public indication that the team could be bracing for the loss of free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira.

The first indication came when the Angels announced Saturday they had offered Teixeira an eight-year contract. No other team pursuing Teixeira has made such a proclamation; it serves no useful purpose in negotiations, other than to tell fans, “We’ve taken our best shot.”

...Finally, Lodge asked if the Angels would consult Red Sox manager Terry Francona for a background check on Ramirez.

Scioscia responded, “Already been done.”

Thanks to Wimster.

Dodgers can spin Manny going to the Yankees. Its a frigging nightmare for them if Manny goes to the Angels. Which is partly why the Angels should do it.

Not if the Dodgers win without him - or if he starts being Manny being Manny again. As scummy as Simers and Plaschke are - they would love to rip into a story like that.

Frankly, I'd rather the Dodgers go re-sign Furcal, despite his injury history. He'd be much cheaper, and if he stays healthy that would help the Dodgers as much or more than Manny - likely more. Use the savings on pitching, and the Dodgers could even afford to have Pierre start in left for another season (so long as he bats late in the order, with Furcal leading off). Then after next season the Dodgers will have flexibility with Schmidt and Jones off of the payroll.
