Rosenthal: Yankees acquire RHP McCarthy from D-backs

The New York Yankees have acquired right-hander Brandon McCarthy from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for left-hander Vidal Nuno, FOX Sports 1 Insider Ken Rosenthal reports.

The benefit for the Yankees here seems fairly obvious. I’m a bit more quizzical about the Diamondbacks’ perspective - maybe they were primarily motivated by a desire to unload McCarthy’s salary, and plan to stick Nuno into the LHRP slot just vacated by Thatcher?

In other news, Alfonso Soriano is available. DFA by the Yanks to make space for a AAA reliever in the wake of the McCarthy acquisition.

I can definitely picture the Diamondbacks thinking McCarthy doesn't fit their idea of what a ballplayer should be.

Congratulations to McCarthy for his upcoming 10-1 finish.

I hear the Yankees included a care package of a case of Pennzoil, you know, for the extra grit.

What are the odds that McCarthy makes more guest appearances on MLB Now in Secaucus than starts in the Bronx?

Cubs @ Nats: 1B umpire couldn't see whether LaRoche applied the tag, checked with home plate ump who wasn't even looking. So why did the Nats have to ask for a review? Have the umpires completely reverted from being activist to lethargic in this Brave New Replay World?

So ... why did you choose this thread for your replay rant?

Why not? IIRC the by-laws at BTF require at least a quibble, if not an outright rant, in every thread...else the whole place has to be taken off-line periodically by evil server companies.

Oh, wait...

I object, your honor! This is a travesty. It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.

#7 - Normally I'd blame the latest Firefox version for its invisible tabs, but I'm not running that version because it's hideous and evil. I just plain typed without checking which tab was which. So I guess that makes me evil.

As far as McCarthy...I hear he's pitching for the Yankees now.

I believe the correct follow to the OP is "Do you realize there isn't a single homosexual on this jury?" Yes, that was a long time ago.

Fielding Mellish is one of my all time favorite character names.

The "Bananas" courtroom scene. And you thought DiCaprio was a strange choice to play J. Edgar Hoover.

Really, the best ARI could get was Nuno? What a pointless trade for them.

Going by McCarthy's 2014 splits it appears that he's had some good games against the dregs of the NL (especially the Padres), but against most everybody else it's been batting practice. Now that he's going to be facing AL lineups I'm betting he'll get lit up about 90% of the time.
