Rosenthal: Yanks sign IF Angel Berroa to minor-league deal

Finally Mrs. Macys Berroa said, ‘I want you to be a Yankee,’ and it was a done deal.

The Yankees have signed free-agent infielder Angel Berroa to a minor-league contract, according to major-league sources.

Berroa, 30, is expected to compete with Cody Ransom for the utility infielder job.

Berroa began last season with the Royals, but was traded to the Dodgers in June, where he filled in for the injured Rafael Furcal.

One of the odder signings in this off season.

Makes sense. This guy has "Enrique Wilson" written all over him.

Wow, Berroa is 30? Seems like just yesterday he was going to help turn the Royals around.

Hey, Carlos Febles is only 32. He could still help the Royals.

I am pretty sure they signed this deal just so that Matsui can kick him in the shins

Febles is a hitting coach right now. Which means that he could be interviewed when the Royals fire their hitting coach in May.

Hey, as long as he's former Dodgers Angel Berroa and not current Dodgers Angel Berroa. That he started the majority of the games at SS is remarkable and stunning.

Brilliant tag, Repoz.

I'm so sick and tired of the Royals losing all their superstar players to the Yankees!!!!

Maybe he'll let Hideki see his 2003 Rookie of the Year Award.

Maybe Hideki will let Berroa see his rin....oh wait. Rookie in 2003, you say?

The Yankees now have 3 of 5 players to get votes in the 2003 AL ROY -- and the one with the fewest votes got the biggest contract.
