1. Bob Evans Posted: April 20, 2012 at 05:51 PM (#4111784)I love these "Nickel and Dimed" type writers that for some reason always seem to forget about the millions of different ways to reduce expenses. Carpool? Mass-transit? Go with other unemployed people? Go with friends who buy their own ticket?
The rest of your point I agree with, and my general stance is that $20 extra dollars for a 1-time expense isn't a big deal because it's just that - a 1-time expense. How hard would it be to shave $20 off your daily expenditures? For me, that would be not eating out for lunch 3 times.
Of course, I realize that in writing for popular media it makes more sense to develop a persecution complex, even if it's on the behalf of others, than it is to write something that's even-tempered and realistic.
I am traveling through KC in a month and wish to sample some local high-quality BBQ. I have been to Arthur Bryant's in the past, and enjoyed it. Should I go back there, or try somewhere new?
I've seen other teams do this. You can of course, not go to the game.
And yet his outrage is on getting a free ticket, and not that unemployed people have to pay to get into a job fair.
Well, this just aired and was a pretty good primer although he made sure to skip Arthur Bryant's and Gates, the two most well-known spots.
Oklahoma Joe's is my favorite hands down. Its located just over the state line in Kansas, a bit west of the Plaza. You might want to try Gates for the experience. There are several locations including one just east of the Plaza and one in midtown. Fiorella's is also pretty good although its the nice, dressed-up, sit-down restaurant. They're located in the Crossroads, just south of downtown. Those and Arthur Bryant's are probably the four most popular joints in town.
I love KC for BBQ, but I never leave KC, ever, without going to Stroud's, for the PAN fried chicken or chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, the lead thick gravy, green beans, cinnamon rolls, etc. The place is definitely in my five meals before I die sort of list.
Oklahoma Joe's does not get the love of Bryant's or Gates, it should.
Park in one of the hotel lots across the highway?
My cholesterol went up just by reading that sentence.
"Charitable Royals offer free access to job fair with a ticket to Friday's game! The tickets are discounted too, only $15! With a free pen!"
The free ticket is to a game in Kansas City. I do not know of this "mass-transit" you speak of.
