Indians have lost only five times in the past month:
-twice to the Red Sox
-twice to the Royals (and I was actually at one of them)
-once to the Twins

Can we stop the love fest now?

I'm probably that grumpy old man, but I was sickened by the sappy love fest between the team and the fans and the fans and the team and the media, etc. The team gave their fans a standing ovation? The streak was baseball history, but come on, it felt like Francona was treating this like a post-9/11 event.

Full disclosure: I'm a Tigers fan and I also despise the Chief Wahoo and almost everything to do with that team.

Indians have lost only five times in the past month:

Given they've just completed a 22-game winning streak, that's a lot more than I would have expected.

Comparing 6 historic streaks in chronological order.....

Home games/Road games; RS/RA (differential); vs. winning or .500 teams/vs. losing teams; position and GB or GA before and after streak

1916 Giants (26): 26/0; 121/32 (+89); 7/19; 4th, 13.5 GB / 4th, 5 GB

1935 Cubs (21): 18/3; 137/51 (+86); 10/11; 3rd, 2.5 GB / 1st, 4 GA

1947 Yankees (19): 6/13; 119/41 (+78); 13/6; 1st, 4.5 GA / 1st, 11.5 GA

1953 Yankees (18): 3/15; 120/44 (+76); 9/9; 1st, 2.5 GA / 1st, 10.5 GA

2002 Oakland (20): 10/10; 141/65 (+76); 8/12; 3rd, 4.5 GB / 1st, 3.5 GA

2017 Indians (22): 11/11; 142/41 (+101); 4/18; 1st, 4.5 GA / 1st, 13.5 GA

Most impressive Home / Road schedule: 1953 Yankees
Least impressive: 1916 Giants, 1935 Cubs

Most impressive run differential: 2017 Indians
Least impressive: 1953 Yankees, 2002 Oakland

Toughest opponents: 1947 Yankees
Weakest opponents: 2017 Indians

Obviously that "toughest opponents" part is a crude measurement, since it doesn't differentiate between a .500 team and an opponent with a strong winning record. But it does provide a bit of context for comparative evaluation.

Full disclosure: I'm a Tigers fan

We can talk about the Tigers trying to streak toward 100 losses instead.

This was one of the most impressive team performances a person will see in their lives. Baseball is still supposed to be fun and a common good for the community to enjoy and be united by. The team and the fans and the media should enjoy the hell out of this.
