Royals trade Treanor back to Texas

Goodbye Mr. Misty May.

The Royals have sent veteran catcher Matt Treanor back to Texas in a cash transaction.

Treanor, 35, spent the last 15 days at Class AA Northwest Arkansas on a rehab playing assignment after suffering a concussion July 30 on a collision at the plate in Cleveland. He was five for 19 with five RBIs in seven games.

The Royals acquired Treanor from the Rangers in a March 28 cash transaction after learning veteran Jason Kendall would not be sufficiently recovered from shoulder surgery to open the season.

Treanor batted .226 this season with three homers and 21 RBIs in 65 games. He will be a free agent after the season.

Good guy, Matt. Glad he's back.

From the Rangers' perspective, the acquisition of Mike Gonzalez is far bigger news.

Despite the .226, he was a walking machine, putting up a .351 OBP augmented by 4 HBP. He had a positive WAR. Neither his manager nor the local media noticed.
