Sabernomics: Where Did the Frenchy Quotes Go?

Into thin air space?

In my previous post, I was searching for Jeff Francoeur’s original quotes to the AJC about his demotion . The problem is that the quotes are no longer on the website. In the story that I believe was originally written by Carroll Rogers now links to a milder story by Thomas Stinson.

AOL Fanhouse documents the original quotes that can no longer be found on the AJC’s website.

“This has really put a damper on my relationship with the Atlanta Braves,” Francoeur told the AJC.

“I love playing for the city, I love playing for the fans and always have,” said Francoeur, a graduate of Parkview High School in Lilburn. “But I’m disappointed with the decision and how the whole process went down.”

[...]“I do not agree with this, but I have to do what I have to do,” Francoeur said.

What gives AJC? Did he or didn’t he say these things?

I didn't hear it first hand, but I'm strongly leaning towards him saying that. His other quotes when he was first notified of the decision were similarily petulant and narcissistic.

I've lived in Atlanta for almost a decade and before that moved around the Midwest and I've never seen an athlete actually treated as "the son" of a franchise. It's a great story with Frenchy being the hometown boy with the teen idol looks and (usually)aw-shucks demeanor making good, but the franchise, the media and the fans baby him beyond belief. McCann, one of the best young catchers in baseball, is basically ignored while most people here slobber over every mistake-pitch home run and excuse every clueless at-bat. Mark Bradley at the AJC wrote a piece about 2 weeks ago that ripped the fans for their typically light boos at Frenchy and his <700 OPS. The media hear loves Frenchy about as much as the Plaschke hates Kemp.

Most of these guys had very good careers and Bruce Campbell was groovy in Evil Dead II.

Meh. Additionally,

"There are more #7 jerseys at Turner Field than all the other uniform numbers combined, and it is entirely the Braves fault."

One wonders why someone calling his site/book/philosophy "Sabernomics" would so easily whine about the free market...

Most of these guys had very good careers and Bruce Campbell was groovy in Evil Dead II.

Click "Compare Stats" and take a gander at the last column in the table.

Pretty anecdotal, but I saw more #16 shirts at the ballpark on Sunday than any other. Still plenty of 7s, 10s, 29s (mine included), and 47s. Even a #23 Estrada shirt!

Maybe people buy Francoeur jerseys because he has a cooler last name than McCann or Jones. That's no excuse for not getting Teixeira or Jurrjens instead, though.
