8-3, 2-0, 2-0. Yes, the Yankees are sitting home watching the Series and the Giants are up three games in the World Series because Jeter is the only player on the Yankees who will give himself up and move a guy from second to third. Before you roll your eyes in boredom and scoff the next time Derek Jeter delivers his theory why teams succeed in the postseason remember this: The Giants are a win away from winning the World Series.
“The teams that are playing the best win,’’ Jeter has said often.
Clearly, the Giants played better than the Tigers in the first three games. Yet, compare the Giants’ lineup with the Yankees’ and Jeter’s belief is dead on.
...
“The Yankees are more concerned with major stars without looking at guys who go the other way,’’ the scout said. “Who goes the other way for the Yankees other than Jeter? Who gives themselves up moving a guy from second to third?

1. Downtown BookieHard to argue with that.
Which explains why the Yankees finished in last place and failed to make the playoffs.
Oh, wait....
DB
then again, they do play in a craptacular division. (though I guess it helps that they get fewer free wins from the Astros going foward)
The Yankees made a mistake by not trading for an outfielder who is famous for going the other way. If only they had pulled that trigger.
On a more serious note, I'm fairly sure that Cano / Ichiro / Gardner goes the other way above the average of MLB hitters.
