Scioscia not planning to reel in Trout

Entering Sunday, the 20-year-old Trout led the American League in hitting (.369) and runs (31) since May 1. In two games against the Rockies, he’s stolen four bases, and he led off Sunday’s game with a double. Trout will have many more opportunities, because Scioscia doesn’t believe scheduling off-days for his young center fielder is the best idea.

Trout is hitting .350/.407/.548 with 13 SBs to 3 CS. He got on base 10 times against Colorado in a three game series. As hot as he started, he’s been getting better, which is insane.

Good god, Mickey Mantle has been reincarnated.

The Rockies are pitching like it's the pre-humidor sillyball era. An adjustment should have to be made for all their opponents to be fair.

There's nothing this guy can't do. Harper's gotten all the press — and he's certainly matched the hype — but the scout that said "If he's not the best player in the game by the end of this season" looks to be dead on right. There is nothing not awesome about this kid.

Ah, ESPN has this up right now: Mike Trout: Greatest 20-Year-Old Ever?

Are we in for 20 years of these dumbass headlines?

Is there any way we can put a stop to this? Some kind of organized effort across the internet to prevent it?

It's kind of weird that the media only has attention for one phenom. At the least, you would think there would be comparison articles cropping up.

Ah, ESPN has this up right now: Mike Trout: Greatest 20-Year-Old Ever?

Like the article says, it will be practically impossible to match A-Rod's season. But he could easily place himself in the top 4-10 of that list, which would be pretty incredible.

% chance of his one day surpassing Dizzy Trout for Greatest Trout Ever status?
   7. TVerik Posted: June 11, 2012 at 06:38 PM (#4154187)
I think Catfish Hunter would be included in that list.

At 20, Doc Gooden had the best season anyone has had in at least 40 years.

I was going to suggest that any headline writer who wants to make a fishing-related pun for a Trout story should first have to agree to being "set" on a hook and then reeled across the newsroom (and/or mother's basement) in his office chair by someone tugging and fighting, Hemingway-style. Then, after being netted, the long, barbed hook will be pulled out of his cheek, and he can be hung from one of those big scales while people take pictures with him.

After that, if he still wants to do the headline, it's OK by me.

No. Headline writers think they are the wittiest people that have ever walked this earth.

Harper's gotten all the press

I think that's mostly an east coast/west coast thing. Besides, the Angels already have a superstar.

Here are (by WAR) the greatest 19-year-old seasons, and the greatest 20-year-old seasons. (Junior's the only player in the top 10 on both.)

Doc Gooden...2 years younger than Jamie Moyer.

Mike Trout's at #41 on the list so far. Geez.

Mike Trout will win the AL ROY, Harper's going to win the NL ROY, but who is going to win the most prestigious award of all? The BBTF ROY.

Also, Harper is on a team with another superstar, aka Stephen Strasburg.

Why wasn't I told this?

Harper's going to win the NL ROY,

Probably, but if Wade Miley keeps this up all year, maybe not.
