Yeah, I bet it was smiles all around for the Dodgers. Andruw should build a couple of little league fields in Glendale to make things right.

Definitely among the worst. The Dodgers paid him around $600k for every time he reached base safely.

According to Fangraphs Jones was overpaid by 37.6 million. I think they overrate him though.

Andruw Jones is looking for a situation where the pitching isn't as good as the DWL. Legion ball, Japanese semi-pro industrial league, something like that.

Could be worse, they could've paid him $36 million for 480 really bad plate appearances.

And yet the thing about this deal is...very few people pegged it as a disastrously bad one when Colletti made it. A lot of people figured he had to bounce back.

IIRC, most of the comments were along the lines that Colletti was smart to just commit to two years, rather than the 4-5 that Jones had been seeking--even if the annual salary was on the high side. Opinions here were split 50/50 on whether Jones would bounce back from his mediocre 2007.

also I don't know what the defensive numbers purport to say, but Braves fans I know insisted that Jones' fielding in 2007 was better than it had been the 2-3 years previous...

a good defensive CF who posts an 88 OPS+ is not a terrible thing to have - it's not a good thing, its not worth 18m a year- but it's better than playing slappy Pierre...

but 2008 was just a complete catastrophe.

But then again Dye was seriously injured and worked his ass off to come back, whereas Jones seemingly complains about his allergies, puts on some more weight and quits on his Winter League team...

When "he's just looking for a situation" is all Boras, Master Of Shameless Turd Polishing, can come up with to describe you, you know you're toast.

His fielding really was pretty good in 2007. Then he gained like 40 pounds during the offseason.
