Seibu Lions posting Yusei Kikuchi Tuesday; Yankees on the radar

As per the terms of the posting agreement negotiated last year, the Lions’ fee for posting Kikuchi will be determined by the amount of his contract. The more money Kikuchi receives, the more his new club owes to the Lions, as it must pay 20 percent of the first guaranteed $25 million, 17.5 percent of the amount between $25,000,001 and $50 million and 15 percent of the total value exceeding $50 million. Percentages of bonuses, escalator clauses and options also factor into the equation.

This guy doesn't hit, so he should be a bargain.

Kei Igawa II?

Just to get a frame of reference:

Kikuchi has a career ERA of 2.81, and an ERA of 3.08 last year. These are against league averages (from last season, calculating them for his career would be a pain) of 3.91. So the run environment is a little bit lighter than last year's National League. Eyeballing his ERAs against league average, the Igawa comp doesn't look terrible (other than to the Yankees that is). But it was probably a surprise that Igawa was as bad as he was. An Igawa-like outcome is certainly possible here, but so is a mid-rotation starter.

With any luck, he'll explode on the league like a fat toad!
