Selig to retire to Madison to write memoirs on UW campus

Oh, the Humanities!

Allan H. “Bud” Selig has charmed the UW-Madison history department, paid a million-plus for a professor to teach the history of sports and had scholarships created in his honor. His new office in the Humanities Building is cozy and modest. The effect of his presence will be the opposite.

No word on if the History Department is threatening to move out of state unless they get a new building.

Oddly enough, the school does speak quite frequently about tearing that building down. We can only hope that they'll do it while Bud's inside.

I know, although I like the bizarre structure. Perhaps a better lead-in would have been, "Selig to lounge in brutalism."

Next up: Taking a look at that old outboard, get that baby souped up.

I agree. I can see why people dislike it - the upstairs levels are Byzantine and it lacks a lot of modern technology - but it's a great example of college campus brutalism. Especially with Vilas next door. Plus, all those crazy rumors about the place being "riot-proof" are fun.

And hey! With Scott Walker's budget cutting an additional $60-some million from the UW System, it's not like they can afford to tear anything down right now.

What's the over under on the year is Bud elected to the Hall of Fame?

Let's hope he has a good box of crayons to write with.

From everything I've heard Bud is a delightful speaker and will probably be a wonderful addition to that college if he gets into it and doesn't simply use it as a cafeteria and for golf buddies.

In an unrelated story, the UW graduate student running four recitations a day wants to know if you've finished those Ramen noodles.

Bud, I am the chair of a history department. For a million dollar donation, not only would I give you an office, I'd offer you a few students to act as chauffeur and gardener, And I'll cut your meat for you.

Now that I think about it, I think Bud's donation lines up with when the History department started sending me newsletters. Kind of weird to think I might run into him around town.

I hate the word "retire" in headlines because I'm never sure which meaning they're using. Is he actually quitting? Isn't that against his programming or something?

I wonder what Selig will do if the UW adjunct faculty try to unionize as has happened at many colleges?

Who would play Selig in the movie? Warren Beatty in old age looks like him--well, at least the last time I saw a picture or film of Beatty.

Bud's been an adjunct at Marquette U. Law School the last couple years teaching a course in Professional Sports Law. He's been well received .

Does Selig think he's bigger than the game announcing this during the worl series. He shouldn't have wrote this article

Will "Seligula remembers" be filed in the fiction or non-fiction section?
