SF Gate: Vizquel set to play Saturday

At last, the Giants have a cleanup hitter.

The 41-year-old Vizquel is set to make his season debut for the Giants on Saturday in the middle game against the Philadelphia Phillies, kicking off his 20th major league season. He has been sidelined all season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Feb. 27.

Brian Bocock had an OPS+ of 13 for 2008 in place of Omar. The Giants are cautiously optimistic that Vizquel can at least match that.

Manny Burriss went 3-4 today with a triple, which must push his OPS+ up to at least 75. For now.

"I think his veteran presence and his play is definitely going to be a shot in the arm for the club."
New rule: You can't use the words "veteran" and any variant of "hypodermic" in the same sentence unless you're talking about hiring Jose Canseco as a strength and conditioning coach.

Oh, and I don't always drink tequila, but when I do, I prefer Sauza Hornitos.

Not that it's necessarily sustainable, but it put him at .286/.333/.357 with what seems to be pretty solid glove work. I'd be shocked if Omar can match that.
