S.F. supe wants to toss Lasorda from parade

Lasorda is dumber than ten Underdog balloons!

We’ve seen some pretty amusing pieces of legislation out of the Board of Supervisors, but this one’s a really good read: Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier wants organizers of the San Francisco Italian American parade to boot Tommy Lasorda as grand marshal.

He’s the former manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who’ve had “an intense rivalry” with our hometown Giants for years and “nobody embodies that more than Tommy Lasorda,” states the resolution.

The Giants aren’t doing so great, it continues, and “Dodger fans are boastful and smug.” Furthermore, there are “many other distinguished local Italian American athletes” like Giants pitcher Barry Zito “or even Joe Montana” who could do the important job of waving from a convertible.

...But is this really how the supervisors should be spending their time?

“We can’t have Tommy Lasorda come to San Francisco for the Italian American parade!” Alioto-Pier said. “He’s like enemy No. 1 right now. If you don’t think this is important, you should move to L.A.”

I thought he was banned for other reasons when I saw the headline...

Will the parade be crossing any high bridges?

None of this would have happened if MLB hadn't decided to allow Italians in the league in the first place.

You'd think that one could just ban Lasorda on General Principle.

What percentage of Italian day is devoted to the Etruscans?

Yeah, Phil, I would certainly have thought that were this worthy of writing about, it would have been for reasons that aren't just run of the mill things about Lasorda.

I don't understand why San Francisco would reject someone who has been the public face of the San Francisco Giants' main rival for 30 years and who is well known for his dislike of homosexuals. This kind of liberal intolerance is the face of fascism today.

[EDIT: it appears that he has only been the face of the franchise for 30 years, despite being a part of the franchise for over 50 years]

Thanks Jonah!

Can't we use this as a coming-together opportunity, and allow him to remain grand marshal of the parade, so long as Lasorda agrees to dress appropriately?
