Shohei Ohtani MLB posting deal reached | MLB.com

As first reported by MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal and subsequently confirmed by MLB.com with multiple sources, the MLBPA wanted MLB and NPB officials to change certain aspects of the agreement, including a shorter window for players to be posted that would be less disruptive to the pace of the domestic free-agent market, as well as a rule that would prevent NPB teams from keeping a player if teams are unsatisfied with the size of the MLB contract (and, in turn, the amount of “commission” it would receive in the transfer).

Officials reached a compromise early on Tuesday that addresses the union’s concerns on the “pull back” provision for NPB clubs, according to sources. A breakthrough occurred when NPB dropped its request for “pull back” rights in exchange for a graduated release fee structure. NPB’s posting club receives a 20% posting fee on the first $25 million, 17.5% on the next $25 million and 15% on all amounts above $50 million.

Now all we need is a team willing to give him a real shot at being a two way player.

Based on the admittedly little I know about Ohtani, it seems like he's going to only sign for someone who'd give him that chance.

It seems like the new rules don't really change anything for Ohtani; they apply mostly to players not subject to the MLB international limits.

My Tampa Bay Rays (and their meager bank accounts and stingy front office) say hello.

Hey, a man can dream.

The Jays did say they'd give him a chance to play both ways. With an opening in both LF and RF and a poor DH the Jays could afford to give him that chance. Any other clubs publicly say that yet?
