S.I.: Heyman: Joe Torre’s clubhouse skills will be sorely tested in L.A.

And so are Heyman’s at FJM.

In an article featured in last week’s SI, “Junior” of the stat-driven Web site FireJoeMorgan.com claimed that David Wright should have won last season’s NL MVP over Jimmy Rollins. Earlier this week, I slammed that notion. Of course, part of my difficulty with Junior’s column was the idea that baseball writers are morons for voting Rollins over Wright. But the other part is that I think Junior fails to see the big picture, which is that winning counts. And so does not winning.

If Wright’s stats and play were vastly better than those of Rollins and Matt Holliday, that would be one thing. But with all those players (plus Prince Fielder) having excellent seasons but none having an all-time great season, I believe that either Rollins or Holliday, whose teams reached October, was a right choice (though I slightly favored Rollins).

Predictably, Junior promptly responded.

Enough bickering. I figured the best way to settle this disagreement was to go to Wright himself, and ask him. So I did.

FJM is pretty good at busting Heyman.

He'd probably be better off just ignoring FJM. That said, of course David Wright is going to defer to others. He'd come off as a jerk if he said he thought he was the real MVP. Sheesh.

There's no way Kemp doesn't get a full starting job, right? Even Joe wouldn't bench him for Juan Pierre. My fantasy team needs to know, dammit!

All signs (and rumours) point to an Ethier / Kemp platoon in RF, and a Pierre-flavored helping of suck in LF. If JP was truly a team player, he'd fake a serious muscle pull and spend 90% of the season on the DL. Or he could be a real trooper and get hurt for real.

#3 I think you need to read #2 again, haha.

Sorry, I just don't see B.K. Kim putting the Pirates over the top.

I always love when people call him BK Kim.

Rumors are also that Nomar might block LaRoche at 3B.

This is why I don't trust Willie. I think he's taken from Torre this stubborn tendency to go with the veteran, so that any promising young player will be over-ripe before he becomes an everyday starter.

If Kemp and LaRoche are blocked can't they just trade them for a top flight SP like Blanton, heck they would probably even throw in Street and Embree.

Why would a writer even think about replying to an FJM post?

Yes, please.

Jon Heyman's writing and reporting skills will be sorely tested when CNNSI asks him to cover teams beyond the Mets and Yankees in his column.

As 'appeals to authority' go it is also spectacularly unconvincing to give us David Wright's post-hoc MVP analysis.

Huuuuuuuuge petpeeve of mine.

I'm sure I've posted it here before, but why doesn't anybody talk about the Hall of Fame careers of basketball superstar M.J. Jordan and coked-up pass rusher deluxe L.T. Taylor?

Question is, if Wright had responded otherwise, would Heyman have printed the response? My guess, no.

You can call him BK, or you can call him BH, or you can call him BHK, or you can call him Byung-Hyun, or you can call him BH Kim....

But you doesn't have to call him BK Kim.

My Korean babysitter and her husband were always amused at how Americans mutilated Kim's name. If you want to go initials, it's KBH.

Kemp hit eighth today, behind Nomar. Juan Pierre hit first.
