Slam! Sports - New managerial hopeful for the Blue Jays

The lead starts wtih “New York Yankees executive Lee Mazzilli, who helped the 1989 Blue Jays win the AL East, would be an excellent candidate for the club’s vacant managerial position.” and then goes off in a crazy direction before coming back to Mazzilli’s candidacy.

Mazzilli as a manager was all hat, no cattle. Our recurring image of Maz back in the Birds in the Belfry days was a photo of Maz sitting on his hands on the bench, staring out at the field. Own coaches or not, he was a total joke as a manager. I'd love to see the Jays hire him, except I have a soft spot for Toronto since I lived and worked there for a year back in the early eighties.

I was a bit confused by the article...was he saying that two of the Orioles' coaches said THEY should have been fired? Now THAT'S candor!

Hired, not fired. He's saying that two of the Orioles' coaches thought they should have been hired as the manager.

Solid young OF prospect, but I think Toronto's cashing him in at the right time, and they should be able to spare him.

Nice deal for AA, even if it's sad to see scavengers pick the Marlins' bones.

So the Jays get Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson, Jeffrey Loria, Jeff Conine, Edgar Renteria, Don Johnson, and Dan Marino, in exchange for a bunch of prospecty guys?

Sounds like a plan. And a great time for the jays to strike with the Red Sox where they are and the yankees where they are.

btw 11.5 million of the 16 million the Marlins have committed for 2013 right now goes to Ricky Nolasco. Yunel bumps it up to 21 million.

This doesn't include whatever they're still paying Heath Bell.
