SNY extends Keith Hernandez

Nice extension, pretty boy!

SNY, the television home of the New York Mets, and its critically acclaimed baseball analyst Keith Hernandez, have agreed to a multi-year contract extension. With this new extension, Hernandez will make more than 110 appearances in the broadcast booth in 2008. In addition to his game analysis, Hernandez will continue to contribute to SNY’s Mets pre- and post-game shows, as well as the network’s website www.sny.tv. Hernandez will join Kevin Burkhardt on the Feb. 11 edition of SNY’s Mets Hot Stove show, where he will discuss his return to the booth, and the 2008 Mets. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Keith is one of the elite analysts in baseball, and we’re excited to continue our relationship with him,” said Curt Gowdy, Jr., Senior Vice President of Production and Executive Producer. “His candid analysis and unique perspective of the game make him one of the most entertaining broadcasters in all of sports. He is the perfect compliment to Gary and Ron—forming baseball’s top broadcast booth.”

I was just thinking about how much I hated the Keith Hernandez "Just for Men" commercials before I logged on. They might be my least favorite. I used to like Clyde Drexler before I saw that.

This was a double post but I "rejected" it.

Well played.

I don't know what to think of Hernandez in the booth. He certainly makes some interesting comments on occasion, which I suppose is reason enough to keep him around.

I loved Clyde Frazier on the radio 15 years ago, but I'm sick of him now.

Isn't it Clyde Frazier, not Clyde Drexler? Clyde Drexler was bald even when he was playing and has no hair to color.

Yes, it's Clyde Frazier in the commercial and (used to be?) on the Knicks radio broadcasts.

He's on the TV now. All (played out) schtick and no substance.

His mid-game digressions more than justify the extension - the fact that he actually makes good points from time to time is a bonus.

I like when Keith and Ron are broadcasting together because it's fun to see two people who have been friends for a long time interact. That said, it seems that Cohen's curmudgeonly manner rubs off on them and that's the only time I don't like them. This happens a lot when only one of the two is working with Cohen.

My pet peeve with Keith is that he grows audibly irritated when games go into extra innings. He just hates missing last call.

Keith is great.

That's what I love most about him. The man loves to eat and drink. I'm glad they gave him an extension.

As opposed to Mr. Gray.

Walt Frazier's vocabulary makes me want to call the constabulary. His broadcasts are all about versifyin' and diversifyin'. Most of his five-dollar words are duplicative and redundant.

I hope you're not questionating Clyde's verbal omnipitude and speechifying prowess. His skilliosity in rhetoricatin' is not to be obfuscated.

I'm a big fan of Hernandez so I'm pleased with this. I like an announcer that isn't afraid to criticize the team when they deserve it.

I'd also like the Mets to consider giving Piazza a broadcasting role when he retires... he's going to get a job somewhere and I'd like him to remain part of the Met family.

No "That stache is trash!" or sweet Emmitt Smith dancing tie-in? I'm disppointed in BBTF.
