SNY: Megdal: Phils beating Mets in ticketing, promotions

As second sacker turned first rate attacker, Willie Randolph Hearst, once said…“Putting out a season-ticket plan without proper promotion is like winking at a girl in the dark—well-intentioned, but ineffective.”

Let’s take the big picture issues to start. Philadelphia already has not only their season-ticket plans for sale—full and partial plans can be purchased—while the Mets are still stuck in the renewal process. In other words, if you wanted to buy a Mets partial plan for your significant other for a holiday gift ... you can’t.

The Phillies have even started offering six-packs. And these are infinite varieties of awesome. They have a Boston Red Sox pack, geared around Red Sox Nation. There’s a Mets pack, allowing you to buy tickets to any two Mets games and four others of your choice. They have a fireworks pack, a fan appreciation pack (was there a Fan Appreciation Day at Citi Field last year?), and each one allows you to customize.

Yes, Mets fans, that’s right—you can pick the games you want, instead of being assigned the games the Mets want you to buy. The Pick’em Pack is the ultimate example—you get to pick all six games. Also, did I mention if you want to, you can vary your seats by game, allowing you to be up close for the Nationals but further back for the Marlins?

Given the way things have gone for the Mets over the last couple years, the only way I would get a Mets' partial plan for my significant other would be if I wanted her to die in a hideous stadium collapse.

The Phils are doing a lot things right these days

The Mets? Well... um... the food and beer in CF is pretty good.

"Yeah, you should be very proud, Homer, you, uh... got a beautiful home here."

The Phillies are beating the Mets in ticketing, promotions, mascoting (sorry, Mr. Met), pitching, hitting, fielding, managing, coaching, stadiuming, baserunning, minor league developing, trading, signing and concessioning (mmm, cheesesteak).

But the Mets do have Lassus, so I'll give them that.

GamingBoy, you couldn't be more wrong regarding concessioning.

Okay, I'll admit, I'm a bit "behind", as I have not been to Citi.

Also, baseball.

That said, the Phillies do have the Schmitter, which is tremendous (and surprisingly not named after Mike Schmidt).

Oddly, that was my nickname in high school.

I wanted "Tremendous" to be my nickname in high school too, but it never took.

I'm glad to hear that the Phillies finally get it. When they were trying to get a new stadium they basically tried their best to do nothing to attract customers. I also don't understand why baseball teams don't try to sell their tickets during the holiday season. It always struck me as extremely stupid on their part.

But Eddiot, nothing can touch the Shake Shack burger, and my average wait time for tacos is less than 10 minutes. The shrimp hot dog is fantastic as well, there's a ton of fresh fruit to eat, two Mama's to choose from... I just think Citi Field has it over CBP in terms of culinary delights. Love CBP, though- a tremendous ballpark. Kind of amazing to think of a few years ago, when these two were playing at Shea and the Vet.

Add to the fact that each can procured within 10 minutes pre-game -- as opposed to the half hour (at least!) waits at Shake Shack and Blue Smoke

Last time I was at Citi I waited in line for pre-game Blue Smoke and made it to the front in maybe five minutes.

The only place you have to wait a long time, in my experience, is Shake Shack, and that's solved with a second Shake Shack up in right field. Let's start the petition.

Just as the Nats expanded Ben's Chili Bowl for the 2009 season, due to the demand in '08. Half-smokes for everybody! (Nats Park also has Hard Times chili and Five Guys burgers. If only Ledo Pizza were available.)

Man, I'm jealous. The food options at Dodgers stadium sucks compared to what you guys are talking about.

The Mets beat all comers in Proximity to Me. Unfortunately, they still manage to lose to the Yankees on the How Long It Takes Me to Get There.

He couldn't be more right about me, though, so that makes up for it.

EDIT: Wait wait wait. They have a Madison Square Park Shake Shack in Citifield? Really? Holy crap. That's what I get for never leaving my seat during a game.

Howard, at least give the Mets credit for doing everything possible to make sure the lines at the Shake Shack are shorter this year. If the Juan Pierre rumors are true, you'll get that burger on Opening Day in five minutes.

I am intrigued by this Shake Shack, and will be exploring it next season.

The Dodgers don't want Castillo. Are you sure they won't trade somebody actually useful for Juan Pierre? :) Like the Shake Shack?
   21. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: December 08, 2009 at 06:03 AM (#3406319)
You can't have the Shake Shack till I've tried it, damn it all.

Juan Pierre for the Shake Shack would be the worst trade in the history of human consciousness.

This makes me re-examine how I feel about a potential Juan Pierre deal. Look- I'll be there anyway. And I'll be hungry.
