SNY: Sell your gold and meet the Mets!

Or…Sell your play-doh and meet the Wilpons!

USCOINS.com, an official New York Mets partner, is hosting a major two-day gold-buying event at Citi Field. On Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you will have the opportunity to enter and view the stadium from the Modell Clubhouse, take pictures, meet former Mets players, get a free photo and autograph and sell your unwanted gold items at today’s high prices. Entrance will be through the Bullpen Gate located along 126th Street.

On Saturday, Mookie Wilson (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), Ed Kranepool, Ron Swoboda, George Foster (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) will be on hand, and on Sunday, Darryl Strawberry (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) will be available to all sellers. USCOINS.com is paying the highest prices for your gold coins, silver, gold jewelry, rare coins, currency, diamonds, sterling silver, entire collections, Rolex and other vintage watches and Tiffany items.

Don’t miss this opportunity to sell your valuables and meet the Mets. To be admitted, you must have at least $300 in merchandise to sell. Screeners at the Bullpen Gate will assess your merchandise. You must be 21 years of age or older with proper ID to be admitted.

I bid two bits.

If this is how the team needs to generate revenue, I'll assume they won't be taking on any large contracts, in trades, between now and the end of July.

Careful if you walk by the entrance after you hit the concession stand, because if they see the 4 hot dogs, 4 beers and a pennant you're carrying, they'll think you're there to sell...

No Lenny Dykstra?

On a somewhat related note, I read on SI.com that the Wilpons lost 700 million in the Madoff scam.

Meh, they lost almost as much in the Oliver Perez scam...

Out of curiosity, prior to the whole Madoff mess, what was the estimated worth of the Wilpons?

Makes you wonder if the Mets are going to maintain their current level of spending heading into 2010.

Maybe not this year, but if they're collecting gold they should be in pretty good shape once the inevitable hyper-inflation kicks in.

Hey, guys! I'm so happy to see that my team has finally landed this much-sought-after sponsor... Delta Air Lines is proud to stand alongside USCOINS.com in support of the <strike>Atl</strike> New York Mets!

I collect gold myself... on my Gold Delta Skymiles® Credit Card, that is! That's right, there's gold in them thar pieces of plastic with numbers stamped on them! Gold Delta Skymiles® is the exclusive built-in benefit that helps you make the most of your miles. Pay with Miles allows you to redeem your miles sooner, for any Delta seat, anytime -- with no blackout dates. Now your miles work for you!

What's your favorite transition element?

Further to the point in #7, this would shock me. I can't imagine the Wilpons had that much in reasonably liquid assets and if they did, they would put so much of it with Madoff. Larry King is not exactly a source to be trusted.

And the Mets are doing well attendance wise, they have all of the $18 parking lots open, sold all of the junk from Shea (City gets a cut though).

I have been to 10 games and it seem most people are walking around looking to spend money. All of the shops have had lines, the shake shack and all of that crap is always packed.

The Mets seem to be doing well.

"The Mets seem to be doing well.".............I understand that the next two weekends that they are on the road, Citi Field will be hosting a flea market, and then a mega pawn shop.

I'd be more worried about walking by with a grill. . .

The Mets seem to be doing well.
And to boost revenue even further, USCoins.com has agreed to buy the plating off of the 1969 and 1986 World Series trophies.

Is that liquid-of-feces guy going to do a promo at Citi this year?

You know its probably a good idea to hang on to your gold when schemes like this get bandied about. I thought the "put your gold in this special bag and mail it to us, we'll assay it and send you a cheque" proposition was bad enough.
   23. Jose Canusee Posted: July 17, 2009 at 06:10 PM (#3257545)
George Foster at a Mets old-timer event. Hope he wears earplugs and a bulletproof vest. That would be like Albert Belle at an Orioles old-timers event.

send you a cheque

Well yeah, if they're sending out obvious frauds like "cheques", I'd be wary too. What's next, you send them your gold and they send you back some Chex?
