Source: Astros calling up No. 3 prospect Alvarez

Plus.

Hinch said Friday that Altuve, Springer and Diaz could be sent on Minor League rehab assignments by the end of the homestand. Altuve has been out since May 10 with a strained left hamstring/right leg fatigue. Springer has been out since May 24, and Diaz has been out since May 26, both with strained left hamstrings.

Correa sustained a broken rib getting a massage at his home on May 28 and was expected to miss four to six weeks.

The injuries have forced the Astros to call up outfielders Myles Straw and Derek Fisher and infielder Jack Mayfield from Triple-A Round Rock and each has seen significant playing time. The club also called up catching prospect Garrett Stubbs late last month when Max Stassi went on the IL with knee soreness.

i notice they called him up the second he passed the super 2 deadline. but i'm sure it is just a coincidence

correa broke a rib when his teensy stick skinny model wife gives him a "massage"
- what was it jim bouton sez - yeah, suuuuuuuuuuuuuurrre

i sure would love to know how a teensy female can break the rib of a large strong healthy male athlete twice her size - unless she was "massaging" him with something like a baseball bat

I didn't realize that Alvarez (like Fernando Tatis Jr.) had been traded before he played in a minor league game. He was initially a Dodgers signing and they gave him up for Josh Fields.

Was it his wife who was massaging him? All the news stories I saw made it sound like he hired a professional masseuse, presumably one of the ashiatsu variety ...

They got him from the Dodgers in a trade for Josh Fields of all people. Josh Fields!

Astros have a heck of a system if this guy is their #3 prospect.

And he homered in his second at bat. Pretty impressive debut.

- who knows. unless she's built like evan gattis i disbelieve that some woman is going to break some large powerful athletic man's rib with massage. some old guy in a wheel chair with brittle bones? sure. but a virile 24 year old male athlete? cmon

he's got a new story today - says that that rib had been hurting him and he told the massager and she presses on it and he hears a loud crack

maybe i'm wise to males or maybe i'm just cynical, but i STILL don't believe it - unless the rib already had something really wrong with it

- i don't get why guys who have ALREADY made the majors get put on prospect lists

like josh james, kyle tucker (who wasn't good and isn't good at AAA), myles straw and cionel perez

- their number 1 is a pitcher named forrest whitley who they are all wooden over, who is doing so lousy at AAA that they sent him on an "extended spring training" - i would say - like mark appel, only mark appel looked BAD from the beginning of his minor league career

Smoked a low change up (?) to left-center on a line. That was a notable display of power.

BBC - Most places seem to take guys off the prospect lists once they exceed rookie status. I don’t think guys who have just a few at bats/innings should be pulled off the lists. A guy who gets called up for a couple of weeks then sent back down is still a prospect in any meaningful sense of the word.

That mental image needs to go away immediately.

kyle tucker (who wasn't good and isn't good at AAA),

Really? Not good at AAA?

He's played 158 games in AAA over the last year and a half, with 135 runs, 196 hits, 40 doubles, 45 homers, 140 rbi, .309/.379/.601.

Say what you want about his struggles in MLB last year (I think he'll be fine), but those are not the stats of someone who is not good at AAA.

- mah bad
i looked at JRF reed's stat line insteda don't ask me how that happened

he looked very VERY lost when they brought him up last year. MLB pitching is juuuuuust a leeeetle bit better than AAA. after all that pimpin and moaning i was surprised
