Good article but I disagree entirely with the conclusion that the performance points in any way towards a future in the bullpen. A priori, you'd never have watched him last night and thought "huh, this guy looks like a reliever, he really ran out of gas the third time through". You'd have thought "damn this young guy came out amped, hitting triple digits early and sitting at 97-98, then wore down a bit as the adrenaline wore off and MLB hitters got a 2nd and 3rd look at him -- but still a great outing getting through six innings with 6K, 3BB and 2 runs."

Any talk of converting him to a reliever after last night is just confirmation bias.

I didn't watch the game, or even read the article, but if someone is implying that a pitcher in his major league debut is showing a reason to be moved to the pen eventually, then that writer would be an idiot. As you pointed out, there are a lot of factors in play.

It was a really good article overall but the last paragraph is just over the top:

It should be mentioned that this is all based on one start. Things can change for better or worse in the future starts Lopez will see throughout the months of August and September. However, it was impossible to ignore the warning signals about the future of the lively right-handed arm.

On the face of it, his start mitigated those concerns, not amplified them.
