South Side Sox: Margalus: The walkless wonders

I also noticed when Morel, Pierre and Vizquel came up, they had toothlessly raked (hold on to your worthy Kenworthy jersey)...30 extra base hits in 800 AB’s.

Entering their start against the White Sox, here’s what their walk rates were before their respective starts:

CC Sabathia: 2.40 walks per nine innings
  Phil Hughes: 3.69
  A.J. Burnett: 4.10
  Ivan Nova:  3.47

For comparison, all six starters used by the White Sox this season have walked fewer than three batters per nine innings, so the last three Yankee starters were collectively below-average in the control department.

But wait, there’s more! Joe Girardi utilized a couple of his more erratic relievers without harm. David Robertson (5.7 walks per nine) recorded four outs without a walk, and the rehabilitating Rafael Soriano (6.2 BB/9) recorded a perfect inning as well.

I’m not certain how to calculate these sort of odds, but based on the averages, the White Sox should’ve walked at least 12 or 13 times over the 35 innings they played.

Instead, they didn’t even walk once.

What are you whining about, the Yankees gave Adam Dunn a pitch on a tee just to help him out.

Not drawing a walk against Burnett is pretty hard to do, but much easier to understand when you're hitting the snot out of the ball and getting him out of the game in the fourth.

Dunn now has a three game hitting streak. I think DiMaggio's in some trouble.

4 games without a walk ties the modern day record. The 1919 Phils did it 7 straight ... although play index only goes back to 1919 for streaks so I kinda wonder about the accuracy of that one.

However the White Sox also did it in 1968 so it only ties the team record.

The 1935 Cubs also did it but went 4-0 in those games.

Some similarity between them and the current Cubs(the walk frequency) and some not so similar(the wins)----sorry I had to go there. :)
