That Jayson Stark kind of stuff is all well and good, but I'm more impressed with the 996 OPS (which leads the team), the 19 runs scored (which also leads the team), and the 19 RBIs (2nd most on the team).

I didn't see the first two, but I can assure all and sundry he had little chance of getting out of the way of yesterday's pitch.

None of his HBPs have been cheap, really. He doesn't make the most dramatic effort to get out of the way, but the ball is definitely coming at him. It's uncanny.

I was impressed with the way he scored from second on a grounder to short yesterday. Chris Carter is coming around in High-A after a miserable start (7 HR in 83 AB, .217/.333/.542), but if Quentin keeps producing anywhere near close to this level, Kenny got a steal.

He may not, and there's always the risk of an injury, but it's pretty obvious that the guy is an offensive monster -- in three stints at AAA, his LOWEST OBP was .422. His lowest OPS in the minors was in 2006 (911 OPS), when he also posted an OPS of 872 in 57 games for the Diamondbacks.

Getting rid of a promising young player because he has one bad season is, frankly, a rookie move. While Arizona might be the cream of the NL right now -- they did a great job getting a big-time pitcher to go with Webb -- you're not going to get very far throwing away free talent.

Jeff Moorad is no rookie, he's also got the Shawn Green trade and Russ Ortiz signing on his resume as an idiot.

Signing Byrnes was the mistake. They had no spot for Quentin and he was coming off an injury. Considering the circumstances, trading him wasn't the worst move. Signing Byrnes was probably the worst move.

Signing Josh Byrnes was a great move.

Signing Eric Byrnes to his 3 year extension, by going OVER Josh Byrnes's head and against his wishes, was a vintage Jeff Moorad moronic move, up there with the Russ Ortiz signing and the Shawn Green trade. Jeff Moorad may be a smart man, but he's the John Gambadoro of baseball owners--all hot air, no substance.

In fact, right now I'd trade Jeff Moorad for Barry Zito, straight up.

Quentin on Monday: 3-for-4 with a walk, and a triple short of the cycle. He's awesome.

Josh Byrnes had no intention of signing Eric Byrnes to an extension. Then Eric Byrnes hit a walk off home run against Atlanta last summer, Moorad called him in the office, held his family jewels for an hour, and gave him a 3 year, $30m deal. And then told Josh Byrnes to talk to Eric's people.

When you have Justin Upton ready for RF, Chris Young in CF and Eric Byrnes in LF, with no-trade protection and $30m over the next 3 years, you have to trade Quentin before he loses all his trade value rotting in AAA for another season. Quentin would've looked pretty #### good in LF right now.

I really hate bashing Jeff Moorad again because it's really not his fault he just doesn't get it, but you wish he'd have learned from the 2005 fiascos...

You can compare Quentin to Byrnes, but I'm pretty sure that if he hadn't been traded for Carter, he would have been substituted in the Haren trade, possibly even without the Byrnes extension. As an A's fan, I think I have just as much right to be bitter about the D'Backs giving up on him as the Snakes fans do. Are you aware that Oakland's playing Emil Brown, Ryan Sweeney, Chris Denorfia and Jack Cust out there right now? *sigh*
