Sports Justice: Hello, Barry, this is Drayton

But, but Bonds might cut into some primo Reggie Abercrumbie AB’s!

Go for it, Drayton. He might just be the best offensive player of all-time. Since he got big, there’s almost no argument. No one has done the things Barry has done.

He changed games unlike any other. Opposing pitchers began preparing for him an inning before he was scheduled to hit. If Cecil Cooper batted Barry third, Lance Berkman suddenly would be leading the world in RBI opportunities.

The Astros wouldn’t have an empty seat in the house, and you know how many hot dogs that will sell. Hear that sound? That’s the cash register ringing. See the standings? The Astros would be moving up.

With one move, they’d blow Michael Phelps and Manny and Brett right off ESPN. Drayton would be the man. Think of the TV time for you, Drayton. For me, too, but that’s beside the point. The entire country would be talking about the Astros.

Frankly, the Astros have a reputation for wanting guys that look and sound alike. Barry isn’t like any of the other Astros. Nothing wrong with that. Do it!

I wouldn't have thought that this guy would ever support signing Bonds. This quote clears it up, though:

Think of the TV time for you, Drayton. For me, too

It would be entertaining to see Justice after the Bonds signing - he'd probably write 3 columns praising it and 3 columns bashing it over the course of the next week.

baseball chick is certainly in favor of this.

God, there couldn't be anything that would raise greater internal conflict for the stats nerd herd than Ed Wade signing Barry Bonds and having Bonds hit 25 HR in 35 games to lead that totally crappy Astros team to the playoffs.

Yawn. At this point, it's beyond obvious that Bonds will never play again.

Yeah, sheesh, no kidding. We're almost 75% of the way through the season for Pete's sake.

The horse is so far beyond dead at this point, worms are crawling through the empty eye sockets.

But purely from a baseball standpoint, would signing Bonds, whose services would be needed for less than three months, help the Astros?

The vote from the locker room: yes.

"I'd love to have him on the team," Lance Berkman said. "I think he'd be great, if he could perform at a level we're accustomed to seeing. That's obviously an 'if,' given his age [44].

"With a talent like that, you never know. If he'll play for the minimum, I'd certainly take a flyer on that."
